I know I've seen one of those before long ago, probably in the mid 2000's. I may be wrong but it looks like a hybrid Maxx chassis. A few companies used to make them back in the early to late 2000's I think, they were meant to make a T Maxx into a light weight truggy that would use 1/8 scale buggy parts and big block engines. A few that I remember off the top of my head were JT Racing, Unlimited Engineering, and I think Dace Manufacturing. They may still make them, but I'm not sure on that. That particualr one you have looks like the JT Racing version with a custom engraving in place where the JT logo normally was. Here's a few pics of one of the JT ones I found for comparison

I was thinking the same thing, some sort of hybrid Truggy using Maxx suspension. The upper chassis plate even has a bolt pattern that looks to be for Maxx bulkheads, but the lower chassis plate holes don't match a Maxx bulkhead. But after reading your post I had an epiphany, it's designed for Unkimited Engineering's VBS which uses a slightly different bolt pattern for the skid plate than standard Maxx bulkheads. It sure does look like the JT Racing chassis you posted, I guess custom engraving and being drilled for VBS was an option.

I like reminiscing about this sort of stuff as it's almost all been forgotten. I forgot about the JT racing chassis. UE only had one truggy conversion that I know of, the Razorback and nobody could forget that beast! Too bad so few were made. I don't know if Dace made a Maxx truggy chassis or not, but you didn't mention the most common Maxx truggy chassis. Hardcore Racing's titanium Mutant Maxx chassis kit. There may have been one more chassis kit I'm forgetting though too. Honorable mention goes to Proline and their custom bulkheads that bolted to a stock Pirate/Dominator chassis but we're designed for Maxx suspension components.

Ahhh yes I bet that one he has was designed to be a whole kit with Unlimited designed parts such as the bulks. I think Unlimited used to sell JT and Dace stuff on their site too in a partnership of sorts, so there's a good chance it was designed to use the VBS you mentioned. I had totally forgot about the Hardcore one! Man, was that thing cool! Pretty expensive too if memory serves me correctly. I forgot about the Pirate Maxx as well, that was a rare truck to see, but oh so unique. When these kits were being made I consider to be the glory days of the T Maxx. You go out and buy an old neglected and tired T Maxx, and build it from the ground up into a sick, one of a kind machine that gathers large crowds at every Saturday fun run down at the track. Whatever you desired your truck to look like, it could be built that way.

I remember seeing only one hybrid Maxx, way back in 2007 I believe. It's owner was running it on the track one Saturday with me, my 2 T Maxx buddies, and a few others. His particular truck was a JT Maxx like the one I pictured. That's the reason it stuck out to me, I'll probably never forget the looks of that truck! It was just so damn cool. He had it set up with 8 shocks, I'm not sure what kind but they looked to be 1/10 scale buggy shocks in that they were about the same length and the A arms (RPM blue) were straight out from the chassis. He had a Dodge ram shell on it, what looked like an Ofna fuel tank, and an Ofna Hyper .21 with a Jammin pipe. The wheels looked to be standard Ofna neon green buggy wheels with knobby tires. That thing absolutely screamed! It was actually lighter than any of our standard chassis T Maxx's but of course much more powerful. It was so much fun to watch it run that for a short time, we all stopped driving for a bit to watch it go. Now days those are all but forgotten, it's really too bad they are. I'd love to see stuff like this back on the market, I wouldn't mind building a hybrid Maxx myself. One thing's for sure, if you built one of these, you'd probably have the only one on the track
