Default Skymasters F-5 and AW Cougar

Hi Guys,
This cool looking F-5 was built and painted by Kim Gardner out here in Mesa Az. He is selling it to me soon and i was wondering if anyone out there can comment on the flying and landing qualities of this jet. I am planning on putting a Titan in it for power.
Thanks,
V..

Hi Vin,

Absolutely Stunning !! That is by far the best looking SM F-5 I've seen so far. I have not flown one myself but from what I've seen at different rallies, it is a great flier and lands incredibly slow.

Kim sounds familiar - I wonder if this kit was mine some time in the past?

Anyway, good luck with it. It looks very nice.

Regards,

Adil

Wow Vin that will be awesome with a Titan. Who makes the pipe? It is bifurcated, right?

Will you have it in Phoenix? I think we (Dianna and the boys) are going to that event if I keep my little plane in one piece. Hope to see you there.

Hi Matt and Dianna,
Yes, i should have it there. Kim Gardner (the builder) is a very modest guy so i had to post this for all to see. His craftsmanship has to be seen to be believed.BTW he is just finishing up an AW Cougar and its just awesome. Check it out. V..

Hi Vincent

Your F5 looks awsome , I like the camo pattern
I also have a SM F5 ready to go just wating for the warmer weather.
It's powerd with a Ram 1000 and SM pipe The kit went together with no problems I changed a few things but in general went by the
instructions ( if you want to call them that)
Sorry about the pics

Good Luck

Ted

Hi Ted,

Nice coffee table. Remember to remove the hatch before you watch TV.

I had just booked a SM F5 and will also put a RAM 1000 on it. Please let me know how yours go in the near future.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Vincent,
You're gonna love the SM F-5. I have around 130 flights on SM F-5's and can attest to the airframes aerodynamic range and strength. It is very stable and capable of every scale maneuver. It lands like a dream...get's into ground effect and makes you look like a pro. Enjoy and congratulations. Woody.

Your's has a Super Eagle as well, correct?I think the engine is gonna be a perfect combo on mine too...I'd imagine the vertical is unlimited and your F-5 is very very fast with the Super Eagle..They are relatively light for such a large jet

Hi Steve,
Correct... Artes Super Eagle with a custom PST pipe. Jet weighs 24.5 dry with a gallon of fuel, so almost 1:1 at takeoff. I fly most of flights at 1/2 to 2/3 throttle. I don't do much sustained full power as the jet is just too fast (AMA-wise) and I worry about twist effects from the scale washout at high speed. I try to keep the top end 160-180 (Eagle Tree) and it is still cookin' and looks much faster than that. One other thing....she accelerates with the nose low like no model I've ever seen before. Make sure the thottle comes back or it'll water your eyes quick on the back side of a loop, etc. Enjoy. Aloha

Woody.

Thanks alot for the very helpful info! I kinda figured that with the F-5 being such a clean streamlined design that it would only need 1/2 throttle for the most part..Being that I have a Super Eagle in mine as well it was great to converse with you on your exp. with the jet!!

The Artes line is simply amazing & they are powerhouses.I have a Rhino in my new Kingcat(33 lbs dry) and I find that it is fairly fast even at 1/2 throttle too! Will be flying my F-5 soon provided I can stop flying the Kingcat long enough, having too much fun [&:]I took a year long break from the hobby & now I'm back to flying all day on weekends

thanks again ,Steve
