Weather Stink?, Favoritie Team getting Trashed?, Build a Burrito!!!!
From the mind of Buildmaster Paul Swany comes the Burrito.
The Burrito is a 40 size profile which Paul claims will come in between 4 to 4 1/2 pounds. I think Paul estimated the weight on the high side. The build on this bird is simillar to the "stickit" type funfly aircraft.
I'm going to attempt to do it justice with a step by step post of the build.
The first step is to glue the motor mounts together using epoxy.

The next step is to epoxy the Carbon Fiber tube to the motor mount.
I did give Paul a ring about using epoxy, but he confirmed that is the glue of choice for this application. This area is what the entire airplane builds around.
You also need to be sure to sand the entire surface of the Carbon Fiber tube so that the glue will have some bite. Go ahead and do the entire rod. The fusalage and the horizontal stab glue directly to the Carbon Fiber tube.

I'll no doubt build a Burrito, but if I built a new plane every time the weather sucked I'd have...well, I'd have a LOT of planes. Now about my favorite team...what the hell is a team??

Then comes the center rib structure. There is an error in the instructions. You will only need 2 center ribs and not all 4 at this time.
The center 1/2 ribs need to be glued together. There is a top set and a bottom set, don't get them confused. Also, you will need to add a shim to both the top and bottom set of center 1/2 ribs. This is because this section must be the same thickness as the motor mount.
I used 1/16 sheet for the shim, but 1/32 sheet would be better.

Here is a picture showing how the center rib section fits with the motor mount. This is why you have to add a shim to the center 1/2 ribs. This joint must be snug, but not too tight.

The next step is to build the two main spars. These consist of two 23" long 1/4" stock butt jointed together with a 10" piece of Carbon Fiber cloth and a 10" piece of 1/8" x 1/4" hardwood centered over the joint between the two 23" long 1/4" stock pieces.

Nice job Harry.... Glad it's comming together..... The instructions are gonna need some work... So keep those pictures comming.... I appreciate the feedback!
One more thing to note... The plans are a little short on the trailing edge of the wing... Off by about 1/4".. Just build to the rib length and everything will be okay...

Since I don't recall anyone asking...
Paul, are you going to kit this one too?
How does it fly compared to the FF Taco, or for that matter the OMP540 or Sledge?

Marty - Yes I'm kitting this plane now... PM me for details. Flys a lot like a Knife.... The moments and control surfaces are very simular to the knife.. but the construction methods are totally different.

LOL,
I hear you Chuck!!!
Thanks Gator,
If you think I like to use clamps, check out how many pins I use![sm=lol.gif]

Here I've started to lay down the ribs on the top main spar. The wing builds upside down on your building board.
I did have to open up the slots in my set of ribs just a little to accept the 1/4 stock.

You must make sure the trailing edge of the ribs are perpindicular to your building surface. If you don't, you will cuss!

Another hint that I got from Paul was to use a shim to keep the front of the center rib section from bending inwards during construction of the wing. If you don't, you might have a fight on your hands to get the motor mount in place. I didn't have anything handy near the right thickness for a shim, so I just used the motor mount!

I cut two pieces of 1/4 stock into 23 inch long sections for the trailing edge. These were butt jointed together and pinned down to the plans. They were then glued to the ribs.
The center section of the trailing edge will be removed in a later step so the Carbon Fiber tube can pass through the wing.
I'm chosing to leave the trailing edge whole at this time due to the fact the wing has to be removed from the board to put on the leading edge sheeting. This should not be a problem, but I would rather have to remove the center section of the trialing edge later, than wish I still had it when it comes time to put on the leading edge sheeting. We'll see how that step goes when we get there.

Now it's time to shave down the trailing edge 1/4 stock to where it is even with the ribs. You can use either a sanding block or a razor plane. My favorite tool for this job has always been the razor plane. If you've never tried one of these, you got to have one for your tool box.

After you have the trailing edge shaped, it's time to add the trailing edge sheeting and the leading edge 1/4 stock and 3/16 sub spars. Nothing out of the unusual here except don't forget to add your shim to keep the center spar from bowing in. Once again, I'm using the motor mount for this purpose.

Then you need to flip the wing over and put the trailing edge sheeting and the 3/16 sub spars on the top of the wing.

To get the leading edge sheeting ready to put on, you cut it to 22" in length and thoroughly wet only one side of the sheeting. The side you wet will expand and the sheeting will curl.
Before I glued on the leading edge sheeting, I did do a gentle sanding on the wing to get all the spars even with the edges of the ribs.
