RE: new scx10 honcho
a lot of people are using the traxxas vxl system with the 2075 servo because they are waterproof so you don't have to shy away from anything, the tire choice is up to you but a lot of people like the rc4wd mudslingers. i'm getting a set of those soon. if you are just going to play you might need to upgrade the shocks, i went with the integy 98mm shocks onmy hybrid and they work great. though they are not scale. hope that helps.

go brushless with the motor for water reasons, weight the tires, the shocks seem to perform better without oil so add just enough to lube the valve. i got a little more ground clearance by using the slightly longer angled rod ends on the bottom of the shocks and left the bump stops off the shockrods for a little more articulation, andmountthe stock bumper on top of the mount holes withscrews long enough to goall the way through the bumper and out the bottom of the mounting holesbecause it hangs up on everything, especiallysteep ledges. also scrap the plastic steering arm for a longer aluminum one, the turning radius with the locked diffs is bad and this helped some.

IMO drag brake is not as needed for a scaler truck.
for a true rock crawler it is a must. but with a scx10 you will find yourself using wheel-speed alot more than slowly creeping over steep grades.
on my scale truck, i use the traxxas waterproof XL-5 esc. you can find them for $30-$40 on ebay.
it would be nice not to have reverse delay, but other than that they work well for scale trucks.
many local scx10 owners have the VXL system. its waterproof and allows the abillity to have lots of low-end torque AND have 10+mph speed. that speed comes in handy in mud, snow or wet surfaces!
with brushed motors, you have to find a balance. the gearing you choose will determine the amount of torque...or wheel speed the motor provides.
with scale trucks a nice balance is best!
most crawler specific ESC's are not waterproof, and the ones that are cost a pretty penny! and trust me, with a scale truck you will want to hit every mud hole and stream you can find!
a metal geared high-torque steering servo is a must!
also, you can add lead weights to the front rims(or axle)
you can also move the battery to the front.
locking the front and rear diffs helps alot
i like imex swamp dog tires. i have them on my venom safari. not scale, but they work awsome in snow!

i noticed the shocks are so-so, ill empty half the oil and see if it will help. also, when the build will be done i will see if the bumper hangs too much for my taste.
good idea for the steering arm, ill get one for sure.
thanks !

RE: new scx10 honcho
The Honcho is my choice of first crawler when I can scrape the money together. As for water proofed esc I have seen that allot of companies are starting to offer them in their new esc makes good business sense with what people want to put them through.

RE: new scx10 honcho
ok, so i finished building my scx10, and installed a brushless novak goat 18.5t system in it.
pretty satisfied with it, only need to tinker with the settings as i found it doesnt have enough drag brakes.
i built a 12 led system, 4 white for headlights and fogs, 4 red for tail lights, 4 orange for parking lights. total cost is about 10$cnd.
heres some pictures for you to enjoy !

RE: new scx10 honcho
Looks good. How is the performance of the truck? I want to get a crawler but i am just not sure if i want to keep the truck look or go towards the xr10 style... I am pretty new to all this RC. stuff about a year now but im slowly gathering all my cars up and want to perform on all ends of the field. i.e. short corse, drift, road and crawler.

RE: new scx10 honcho
i did it myself, cost about 10$ to make, i can control parking lights, night lights and fog lights.
you will need:
12 leds
some small wire
some resistors (use a calculator first and only buy those you need)
a 9v battery holder
switches
shrink tubes
