Help! OS 46FX unused for a year.
My OS 46FX has been in the garage for a year without being touched. I am anxious to get back in the air. When I spin the prop (not trying to start it) it just doesn't sound like it used too. No nice compression sound. What should I do to get back in the air regarding the engine. Should I just try to fire it up or take some other steps.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Help! OS 46FX unused for a year.
I have this engine and I have left it in my care for the entire winter. Every time I start the engine, it hand starts without a problem. I am a non-believer about using after run engine oils and it runs perfectly. I even recently disassembled the engine and it ran fine after that. I didn't even clean the slight discoloration off of the piston.
What you probably are experiencing is what I am experiencing with my OS.40 . I no longer feel the pop when turning the prop to TDC then through TDC. I miss this but it doesn't effect how the engine performs. I may buy another piston and sleeve as I already replaced the crankcase. I have to see how the money goes this month.

Put some light oil in it first like sewing machine oil or ATF. See if you can get it freed up?
Enjoy,
Jim

I recently started a couple of engines that had been set aside in the early 60s. They were stiff but loosened up with fuel and fired right up.

Thanks for all your input. The engine is running OK but I am having problems at idle. I am afraid I have played with the low speed needle a little too much and am having trouble getting it to run well at idle.
Does any on know what the optimum number of turns should be to get it back on track?
Thanks again.

Close the throttle rotor gradually from fully opened position until it is just fully closed. (Do not turn further)
Then, screw in the Mixture Control Screw until it stops. Now unscrew the Mixture Control approximately 1 1/2 turns open. GL .
