I was wondering if a 65 la engine is enough snort to pull a piper great planes 40 with a set of great planes 60 series floats out of the water with no problem?

...should be plenty, as long as the CG is correct, and over the step, ventral fin in place, and a little up elevator until you get enough speed. Should be more than enough.

Billy, Just for you to know, two days ago I flew a Sig Kadet, 70 in wingspan, with GP 60 floats and a 65 la and landings or take off were not a problem at all. I ran the engine with a 10-7 3 blade prop, and 18% oil.
Good Luck.
Ps By the way it was my first time ever on water and it was fun.
