Default XYZ 26cc First Impressions

I received an XYZ 26cc engine from Southeast RC Engines today. Ron shipped it the day after I ordered it and it took one week to get from Florida to California. The packaging inside and out was superb. The quality of the engine is excellent. The crankcase is machined from two pieces of bar stock aluminum. The cylinder is a very high quality casting. The piston is double ringed. It comes with a stamped sheet metal engine mount as part of the engine eliminating the need of those nuisance standoffs. The carburetor is a standard Walbro with no modifications that I can see. The engine weighs two pounds by itself. The muffler is the cavity type with no baffles. It is stamped from sheet metal. The ignition module is in a plastic case that is bolt mounted to a convenient spot with standoffs for air circulation. The battery connector is the Futaba type. The ignition pick up is securely mounted to the crankcase. The instructions say to use a six volt battery pack with a draw of 500ma. It comes with a NGK spark plug with a tapered mount. A regular one with a washer fits just fine. It will take me a few weeks to get it in the air. As soon as I get some flight data I’ll post it.

The muffler weighs 3.4 ounces and the ignition module comes in at 3.7 ounces. I haven't picked a plane yet. I wanted to make sure that the engine was worth it before I committed to a plane. Dan

i would do my best to come in under 10 lbs for that size motor to have the power the plane need to enjoy it.

This might be a sweet combo on these c/f pipes:

I think that are under 3 oz and under 170 bucks....

Thanks for the recommendation but I am only a sport flier. I'm not into performance. Just getting up and down in one piece is good enough for me. Dan.

I bought the XYZ-50 and it to looks like a class act. The engine comes just as you discribed it. Mine is just a littler bigger and weigh's 3lbs 10oz with everything. I mounted it to a test stand and started it. Once gas got to the carb she fired right up. I ran the engine for four 15 minute runs using a APC 20x8 sport prop. On the fifth run I leaned it out 1/8 of a turn on the high end. I have a good idle at 1900RPM and 7200RPM on the high end for a very briff run. I am using pennzoil for air cooled engines at 40 to 1 for breakin. The engine started very easy with each run and I could not be happier. I know you'll love you XYZ-26.

I have the XYZ 26cc A-Spec.
This engine's performance are rater good but cant be compared to the top-dollar engines out there (MVVS, Zenoah ect...)
It produces the same torque (Power) as my saito 120 and cost less than half the price.
further more - the fuel consumption of this engine is very (Very!) low, i get a 20 minutes flight for a 250cc fuel.

the engine spins a MA 16X8 at 7800 RPM , a APC 17X6 at 8000 RPM and a APC 18X6W at 7200 RPM.
It is mounted on a Biplane that i designd and built, it weights approximatly 9lbs.
with the 16X8MA, The plane doesnt have unlimited verticals but with the APC 18X6W the plane roaring verticaly while rolling :-))

I am rather pleased with the engine, its a grate "Value for money"

Thank you Ravivos for all the good data. I will certainly make use of it. I was very impressed with the engine's quality but of course performance is the most important criteria. It will be a month or more before I get a chance to fly the engine. Dan

Hi Ravivos, You mention that you get about 20 minutes of flight time with a 250cc tank. Have you kept track of the current that the ignition module is drawing? Did you ever measure it or have you kept track of the flight time you are getting with your ignition battery pack? I would also like to know what is the capacity of the battery pack you are using. Dan

Not trying to jump this thread,
But if some of you are looking for an inexpensive 26cc gas engine, I have a CRRC Pro GF26I.
I am extremely happy with this engine.
I have it is tuned perfectly, great reliable idle, super transition, without a pop anywhere from idle to top end.
Have never had any deadsticks with it.
APC 17 X 6 - 9,350 rpm .
APC 18 X 6W - 8,050 rpm .
The APC 17 X 6 was the best in my Seagull Laser 200 which weights 11 lbs 2 oz.
I got it for under $200.00 @ the door with a pitts muffler.

Hi Dan.
I am using a 1000mAh 4cell NiCad battery (4.8V) and the ignition module runs fine.
I made some tests with a 6V battery, NO degredation in performance with a 4.8V so i decided to use the 4cells to reduce some weight (Yes, I know it isnt that critical... but i really try reducing every gram i can).

The ignition module draws approximatly 350mA at WOT, with a 1000mA i can get more than two hours of engine time between charging.

The engine had only 2 gallons of fuel through it and i feel its getting stronger each flight it makes.
