DA 50 drill set up for a yak 54
Guys,
I recently bought (from ebay) my first NEW large scale airplane. Its a yak 54 50CC.
It was cheap so I can not complain about the lack of ........
My question is :
Since there are no marking on the firwall for the engine , what is the "beginners" set up , so I can apply the template to the firwall.
Let me try to simplfy. The firwall has no markings for the (DA-50) template.
I've seen some threads where its suggested to go-off 1/4" right and center, is that right?
Thanks for all the help
Arnon

First you need to see if there is right thrust built into the firewall, Measure both side to see if one side is shorter than the other and are there any center lines at all.

The colour scheme suggests that it is an Aero Works model. Do a search on their web site and you might find what you are looking for there, or contact them by phone and ask how to obtain a copy of the model's manual, plus it might be available on -line.

On the website it says:
***THIS YAK 54 50CC IS MADE BY NITRO MODELS***
Looks like an Aeroworks copy or Aeroworks photos..
I know that at one time Nitro-Models had a 50cc Yak for $300
But if you got a good price for it WHY NOT
Just reglue EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It the side and down thrust are built in and the cowl has attachement points already, do it this way:
Attach your engine to its stand offs and put the model on its tail, support the plane by its wing tube on a step ladder or simmilar, carfull of the rudder hitting the floor, place the engine into position on the firewall and attach the cowl, carfully position the engine in the centre of the front cowl opening, then very carefully take of the cowl without moving the engine, mark the positions of the stand offs on the firewall, you now have the perfect position of the engine.
Mike
EDIT: to add link to the Aero Works Yak 50cc manual: javascript:OpenPopup('upload/manual/50cc_yak.pdf') sorry link does not work, but the manual is available on their web site.

RE: DA 50 drill set up for a yak 54
Guys thanks for your good input.
Milton,
Regarding the thrust, as far as I can tell, there is no thrust compensation built into the firewall (hence the firewall is all dead-center).
There are NO lines or any other guides for the engine.
karolh
I did just that and found the manual of Aero Works on-line. It looks like the firewall is built different and I CAN NOT use it as a guide. But I agree with you it does looks like a "cheap" imitation of Aero Works.
Walt and Sage
I will have to reglue EVERYTHING. This is on my to-do list. My glue budget just triple for this plane [)]
BUT I'm still stuck with the engine procedure.
Any help will do
Thanks
