zdz 50ng mounted in an extra 260?
Just recently purchased an aero-works extra 260. Problem I have is that the zdz 50ng I have won't fit properly unless I cut into the engine box. Worse still in order to access the needles some of the cutting would have to be in the top portion of the box. To my way of thinking this would degrade the strength of the engine box. Using stand off's does'nt work either. With the carb just clear of the box it puts the engine too far forward. Anyone have any suggestions except to go out and buy an engine that actually fits.

Don't worry about the cutting the top of the engine box. You don't even need the top lid for the box to be strong. You can pin the firewall with screws or wooden dowels, or put some lightweight aluminum angle stock on the front corners. Put some epoxy on the inside of the angle and place it on the corners. I would then drill holes through the aluminum and into the wood so that screws could be put in.

Yeah this is common for ZDZ 50 NG's. They have a long rear induction and it makes them stick out to 7" from firewall to back of spinner plate. If you can just move the firewall back that is the cleanest. Not the easiest but the cleanest. I went with a different engine on my EF 88" Extra (Briellelli 60). The ZDZ 50 's are best for Yaks....where they can stick out no problem. I never put spinners on them so I don't care how far they stick out.
One big benefit to moving the firewall is you can scrap the cheap sponge ply and use some real stuff.
