Default Most Powerful/modified GAS ENGINE???

Ok lets start a thread to see which is the most "PREFFERED" gas engine, I just saw the post for the "energy cat" and WOW that cat from "Tahoe" was flying... 77mph!!!! I also saw some races this weekend and I am inclined to buy a Cat or Hydro, money is not an issue. I use to have the have the 44 avenger with a full-mod MRD engine, it use to hit 61 MPH preety easy, but that was about it. WHAT CAN I BUT NOW TO IMPROVE THIS 61-63 MPH MARK????

Over 65 MPH it's all about set up and props, dude. You can't buy your way to a fast boat. Believe me I've tried

I've got to agree with that. I've seen a lot of different modded engines, and they're all about the same, except for price. I've even seen a cheap modified engine well and truly hold it's own/beat one of the more expensive modified engines out there. In the end it all comes down to tuning knowledge & boat setup and the person holding the Tx.

I watched Wally make several passes that day and the conditions were about perfect, no wind and great air. His boat was on the edge of blowing over and why it didn't must have come from setting it up properly. Other Cat's were blowing off the water at the top end. These guys make adjusts sometimes of under 1/2 degree, turning a needle just a hair further in and tiny pipe adjustments. It takes time and experience as the faster that you go, the less boat that you have on the water.
As far as preferred, Steve with SS Engines was there with Wally to lend a hand although there are a few others that can make you a fast engine.

This follows on from another thread about getting more speed. Here's a perfect example. I have a large FE mono. It will run in the low to mid 60's in its normal oval trim set up. Now by changing nothing else except the CG and prop that same boat (same motor, batteries, ESC) will run high 70's low 80's. THAT'S how important set up and props are. In fact, of that nearly 20 mph increase in speed about 15 of it is prop alone. Even the water conditions effect how fast it will run. It ain't all about the engine to be sure.

So pick any of the numerous well made modded engines and then start the wonderful task of learning the set up and propping to get the performance you desire.

Since the question is about ENGINES not SPEED the best Legal engine for NAMBA or IMPBA I have seen (dyno sheets) would have to be the M&D Cast engine.

SUPERCHARGER i have seen this on many forums ,
the laws of physics tells you that you cant use forced induction on a 2 stroke because both ports are open at the same time
some companys have built them in the uk they claim a small gain in power with heavy fuel consumption as a blow thro setup but then you loose the tuned pipe effect so they have never got off the ground
if they could be made to work we would have had them 30 years ago

but then theres allways a "NOS" system if you want uncontrolable mega power

Yes its not like a 4 stroke but you can supercharge them it just makes them more effcient as the flow fresh fuel right thru an leave residual crank case pressure
I did an experiment a long time ago with a gas 2 stroke motor made plenum in front of carb an pressurised it with compressed air
Motor was on test bench with plane prop on it
It made a massive increase in torque an throttle response had to change up 2 sizes in props
Only draw back was it was pain to tune an was hard to keep at part throttle

Diaphram works on pressure differences, that's why it was so hard to tune, pressurising the whole carb would let the diaphram pump work more consistant

Really, the OP wrote this:

Seems like he really is interested in the SPEED. At least that is the way it appeared to me. All caps and everything made it seem like he was talking about improving the SPEED of his boat.

Maybe I misunderstood. Apologies.

I heard a modded Chung Yang engine was a big screamer too, it went 106 mph with a good setup rigger and fuel.

All those engines that you listed here could run more than 61-63mph, just add one more Redline 260 on your list, 6.75hp/15000rpm and 5.5hp/18000

More like the best set-up in the world and the engine was built by one of the best independent development guys in model boating!

Thanks Ron , I have been doing this for 14years and semi retired the hobby for nine of those years and I made many mistakes along the way. I recently have been running right on the 80mph mark with my cats and I owe 1/2 of that to My SS enterprise engines and the other 1/2 to my set/up and tuning experience.

I will try to get some new video of some 80mph+ runs this weekend and post them

Using a bypass at part throttle to pull the compressed air off might solve that problem. Of course it would add complexity.

Any turbo charged two strokes out there?

Admittedly all my experience is with 4 stroke tuning of charged (turbo and super) engines. However, even with those engines there is still overlap between exhaust valve closing and intake opening.

Suicidal Engines are now sold under the name of Dominator Pro by Insane Boats. I have 3 of them and like them a bunch. Strong, fast and well made.

hmmm i see...

1) M&D Cast engine
2) Suicide Engine / Redline 260
3) SS engines
4) Hanson Hornet

So far most people will agree that the redline 260 and the ss engines will do the job right out of the box. Not much heard about "hanson" and only 1 person went with the M&D engine.

I like the redline 260, maybe the redline 260 on that insane hydro gen 3 would be a nice toy. Any website for the SS enterprise engines?
