I hate rock crawlers.. here's mine..
It was fun as a crawler for about 3 minutes, so I moved the suspension linkages.

Well, that was fun for about 3 minutes more..
now what do I do with it?

Those big crawlers are zero fun in the backyard. Most crawlers are boring for backyard bashing because there's no decent obstacles around. And that's one of those craptastic copy-cat crawlers. I say sell it and get yourself something like an Axial SCX-10. Way more fun for just fooling around in the backyard. But even that stuff gets boring. Personally, I think bashing is boring in general.

I agree with KB and Shabbernigdo, dedicated crawlers can become very boring when you don't have a good place to crawl at, especially something that big. Something a bit smaller and faster would definitely help. I love driving the Tamiya cr01(a friend of mine owns one). It's geared low for good torque, but with the stock motor, it's pretty peppy. Plus you can lock and unlock the diffs externally for bashing or crawling.
I have my crawler(a modded HPI wheely king) fitted with a 55t motor, but close to stock gearing, which gives it OK speed.

All rigs are boring in a flat grass area. Get out and use it like it was made to be used..

i gave up on rock crawling as the only place here in indy is open only once in awhile, whenver the owner feels like opening up. i agree with the mad modder comp rigs are useless as bashers. i went the trail rig route, and look for MUD. i didn't realize that a tekin fxr is waterproof.

Thats what you get when you buy cheap junk from China. Throw it in the trash where it blongs get a real crawler then you will have fun. If your still not having fun then your in the wrong hobby...duh!

to each their own, for sure, But if I'd spent any more on a crawler like you're suggesting I'd be even more pissed off!
as is, with the cheapo crawler I have now, its the only rc vehicle that I can drive around inside, the others are all too fast.
which makes it perfect for playing with when my 3 year old nephew comes over!
so, thats what I'll keep it for.

That sounds like a great idea...I bet your nephew will love that thing! But looking at the additional mounting points for your suspension and the sound of those high torque motors it could be fun if you tweaked it a bit.
Motor over axle configurations are fun to drive if you have the right terrain. You kinda turned a crawler into a blinged out monster truck lol...kinda looks cool....put a wheelie bar on that thing and mount a body if you want to make it a basher although those MOAs wont be blazing fast...what company made that thing anyway I've never seen it.

you might try making the links a lot longer maybe with some traxxas links(get them at the lhs) and turn it into a super crawler and then it does a lot better. make the wheelbase about 14-15 inches and have fun.

it didn't want to insult the guy too much! lol
stock wheelbase is 18 inches.
I've moved the linkages again, so now the front and rear axles sit level, and it can actually steer

If you're on the rocks, lots of rocks, crawling can be a lot of fun .... If there's any crawler comps close by, hit one up and give it a try, that's even more fun. But, to each his own ... bashing a crawler w/o rocks is like having a boat without water!

B. Get your lazy *** out of the backyard and hit a quarry or something.
C. Get out of the hobby altogether and join the marines.

Yeah, why are the links crossed????? the front mounted to the back and back to front?? No wonder it's a piece of junk. set it up properly and climb up obsticles. The fun for me is seeing how far out of line you can get before tipping or rolling over.. How do you BASH a ROCK CRAWLER anyway? I love mine........

i had made a wheely king into a crawler. but lost interest in crawling.
so, i made it 4 wheel steering with a somewhat fast motor and used it like a real monster truck. that was alot of fun. i set up a mini monster jam course.

ive thought a lot about gitting one latly living in florida i have simaler problems with flat land but you can crawle logs and stumps and some people make courses out of expanding foam and rocks on plywood stand in ther garadge/back yard also depinding on your skil u can make it out of plaster and wire mesh.
i thout about taking one to the jettys in datona its a big pyle of rocks run into the ocean bordering a canal between the innercostal and costal water ways in your aria u might look for busnesses with rock pyles or demoed buldings .
or u can take a day trip to north dallas tx. about 1 1/2 miles north of the loop on 35 north .east on the south bound side thers a large rc shop with an old crawler course that no one uses anny more try them about 200 miles round trip.

I managed to break the speed controller in my crawler anyway, so was going to run dual brushless setups.
