best brand of 22-23" props?
What are peoples fav props brands for 50cc gas engines?
I have a great running DL-50, and i am using a 22x8 bolly wood prop. i also have a 21x8 and a 23x8 booly props.
21' spins to fast and not much pull, 23" bolly loads up too much. props this size are expensive so i want to see what others are using.
also want to stay with wood as carbon is also expensive!
Thinking of trying vess props.
Anyone want to pipe in with their expieriences?

Mate - try Scott at DL Engines Australia. He sells the TZB and Hawk props at a fair price. I've used both the TZB 22 x 10 and 22 x 8 for a while on my DL50 and I'm really impressed by them. You can pay a bit extra to get them pre drilled with the DL / DA prop holes. They are available in plain wood - or what I like, painted in white and red.

Vess are the best for 3D type flying, Here are a couple videos showing the thrust in pounds between a Vess 22-A 23-A and a Mez 22-10

The best prop on Engine A and Airframe K is not going to fly the same on Engine H and Airframe C. It might work okay on Engine A and Airframe P, but you'll barely get the plane off the ground with that prop on Engine A and Airframe D because Airframe D has so much more drag or weight or both. Engine G however, will totally YANK Airframe D off the ground with Prop X5J
If you want to know which prop flies your plane the best, spend $1000 on props and start burning gas.

My favorite brand of prop is Mejzlik, beyond that I also like Xoar laminated props as well. I have had mixed results with the Vess props great on one plane/engine and very undesirable on another combo.

I just put a DL 50 on my GP 27% Extra 330S ARF.
First I ordered a Mejzlik 22 x 8, but until I arrived I was using a Zinger Pro wood 22 x 8. Much as people bad-mouth those props, seemed fine to me. I flew the two gallons of break-in fuel with that prop and another few gallons of regular fuel (50:1 Amsoil). Then, my Mejzlik arrived, but I got only three flights on it before I nicked the tips on a bouncy landing (dumbass!). For the short time I used the Mej., the plane flew faster than with the Zinger Pro wood, but the engine would hesitate when I throttled back up after extended down lines. Then I went back to my Zinger Pro wood while I waited for more props to arrive (I ordered two Xoar laminated 22 x 8). Back to the Zinger, the hesitation I was talking about disappeared. Now, onto the Xoar today after work. About the same as the Mejzlik I guess, the plane flew faster, but the hesitation came back. Maybe additional drag on prop?
Well, I'll stick with the Xoar, but I didn't have any problems with the Zinger.

RE: best brand of 22-23" props?
My fav's...
NX... Engine can unload with a NX prop and still get very good thrust. It will however rip easier so if noise is an issue I move up to props two or three to spin slower. Nice howl but can get raspy.
Xoar... Bit more load with almost as much thrust as NX. Quieter but if trying to rip it, it has a nice howl rather than a raspy rip.
PT...Makes the engine work the hardest, pulls the hardest, when made to rip has a wonderful howl. Very much like John Sharp's NXT howls as he is lapping the field!
TF... Absolute easiest prop to modify, a 24x8 trimed to 21.5x8 will give performance equal to most 23x8 props with it's wide blade.
Zinger...Tried em with 4 strokes glow and they became my fav. Very light weight wood, well balanced, pull is acceptable in 22-23" sizes but have a raspy sound when ripped. Have witnessed them out pull a Mejzlik.

I am running PT carbon props. Love em. My Evolution 45 spins a 22x10 to 6900. The 22x8 was ripping and the plane flew too slowly. I find it is a great prop for 3D and IMAC.

RE: best brand of 22-23" props?
Actually the reason we have forums is so we do not have to spend $1000.00 on props or anything else. If we take the time to read these posts and ask questions we can actually find the right prop for the right job.
Just my opinion.

rc extreem power, couldn't see your vids for some reason. what was best in your opionion? i'm thinking i might try a 22b or c?
plane flys too slow with a 22x8 bolly. I see what people mean now how different props just work diffrent from plane to plane, no real way too know without trying them, but i dont wanna spend a thousand bucks finding x 1 prop that works.
Worst part of prop testing is that when you've found the one, you dont wanna use the others anymore!

If you fly 3D you will want more pulling power, If you fly planes like war birds and want speed you will use props with lower RPM.
I have found for 3D that 7100 to 7400 RPM work best, For speed from 6400 to 6700 work best.
To answer your question if you want speed go with the C, If you want pulling power go with the A

RE: best brand of 22-23" props?
having decieded that, i think a 23a will load up motor to much? only getting about 6550rpm with 22x8 bolly and about 5850 rpm with the 23x8 bolly. bigger dia. prop is better for 3d, yeah? providing you can still get 7000 + rpm. on the 21x8 booly i get abput 7250 rpm.
So i think safest money is on a 22A vess! have my asnwer! thanks all!

I fly on a budget and use Hawk wood props.
At our club most of the guys flying Gas are very happy with Hawk and the price is good.
Im using a 22X8 C Type on a GF50 in a 80" Katana and it pulls great.
22X10 A type on my Pitts 12 with a 3MM 53 up front.
On the GF45's the boys have great results with the 20X8 C type.
23X8 C type on the DL-50's
We have found the C type are the best for 3D work.
A type have a wide blade and C Type have a scimatar profile.
Cheers

Is anyone flying a comp-arf 2.1 meter yak with a DA 50 with tuned pipe and a vess prop? If so what vess prop are you using for 3D?
