They are both left side plates.

I wish I could find someone that would do some small scale anodizing cheap. They would look good in red.

Ahh...I thought I saw a cutout for the header on the rear.
I'd go for the ones on the left...but the flame is just too cool. Thought about doin any for us X guys with the X in the front area of the plate like on the stock X? Minus the etching...

How about making a center skid plate to go with that LCG?

So does this all mean that a Savage X needs a center skid plate(to strengthen the chassis..) moreso than the older Savages would?

How would a center skid plate prevent the part that's bending from bending?

the skid plate protects the bottom of the center gear box. it also protects the tvp from some flex. other than that it adds weight.

yes on that particular area of the tvp that bend and in most cases breaks like mine. the skid plate can do nothing to protect it.

Just thought it would strengthen the chassis, prevent flex, etc..

It will prevent it from warping and strengthen it like you said. IMO its worth the extra weight.

Thanks.

I originally did these for myself and a couple of the local guys. Just a way to make the Savages handle better in as cheap of a way as possible. I'm working on some more stuff now, like incorporating a skid of some sort and also a redesigned engine plate.

damn cronic i like your work i use to beable to make little things out of a stop sign (dont ask) but i made bumpers and skid plates and now that i got my savage i should try its just i dont have all the right things up here (worked in an auto body shop)so i would just punch out bumpers drill it out and put it on the truck but the savage would be killer to have the front skidplate in an all aluminum[8D]

IMO a GPM style center skid really helps to strengthen the chassis from front, side and upside down impacts. The integy center skid does not help with the overall strength of the tvps but does at least prevent crap from getting on the brakes. I also have a Hardcore racing titanium front skid cover and i wouldn't ride without it, plus it makes nice sparks when you hit a rock or or something. I know its added weight but its well worth it, especially for the really rough bashing sessions i like to do every now and then.

The reason i brought up the center skid is because if i'm going to get TVPs from Chronic i don't think just any plate would fit unless he makes them to fit his TVP design.

Whoa, real downer! Yeah, the cute little decorative "X" is worthless; that decorative "X" does not even make the truck look any better. All of you Savage X owners should get on the horn and tell HPI about this design flaw. As for me, I'm sticking to the good 'ole original Savage until HPI just totally discontinues it.

Jim...like I said in another thread...It's not unlikely that there's a REASON they made it buckle there. better a $20 chassis plate than breaking the crankcase of an engine...

You seem to have an idea of the Savage X design. From what you describe, the Savage X has those weak "x"'s cut into them to function as crumple zones in much the same manner cars have crumple zones designed into their chassis. This is to compensate for the expected fact that the Savage X will bottom out more often than the old one and transfer the falling energy into the truck itself.

Based on this info, I have decided not to install the X suspension upgrade and keep the old suspension arms and shocks. Though I will not benefit from the lower stance, I will still have the full throw of the old suspension system and the durability of the old Savage. I don't necessisarily like replacing the TVP's, the MSRP for the old TVPs are $60 and more for the X TVPs. I can get the old TVPs for about $15 online (including S&H). Also, I would'nt be lucky enough to win a bid on ebay to buy X TVPs for only $20; Savage X parts seem to be hot sellers right now.

By the way, anyone know the weight specs of a Savage SS, Savage X, and Savage X SS? Can anyone point me to a prior thread with this info or point me to an URL with this info? Much thanks for any help. By knowing this, I can calculate how much force a Savage will take from a jump of a given height. I dont have any scales accurate enough to weigh my Savages.

Mine bent when I landed on the roof! I don't think it's the engine weight but the tire/ suspension weight dropping on the chassis. I landed some big jumps on the wheels with no problems. 1 aborted backflip that landed on the lid and seconds later I strip a spur gear? I can't even move the engine far enough to get it to mesh a new gear! The little X is bent. I think some designer said " ooo lets put an X here too" . I don't think a crumple zone was the reason of even a thought.

CU..your engine's crankcase isn't cracked though is it

it was just a thought, HPI doesn't typically go and do stupid things for no reason. they've built their reputation on durability, but I would like to get to talk to somebody that actually worked on designing the X just to see what they say on some of the "problems" that have been brought up since the X came out.
