Default 8.0 trans problems

Ok i have put about half a gallon through this truck and i am already having transmission problems. When i pull the throttle the truck tries to move and sometime does but mostly it dosnt. It seems like something is slipping. I tore the trans out and pulled it apart and i can not see anything wrong with it. I put it back in the truck and it worked fine for about 2 minutes and then started to slip again. Am i looking over something really simple or what. Any help please???

Sometimes it's simple and other times it's not very obvious. 8.0 or older verssion?

Make sure your getting full engagment in forward or rev. from your shift servo. If you have FOC it can't be that. The one way bearing hub in the tranny maybe shot. The old .21's and the 4.6's had the same tranmissions and those hubs were one of the few week points at least in my case. The other was the nylon/plastic main gears. Could be a pin snapped and maybe you didn't notice it when you were in the tranny?

The only tranny problem I had was the one way bearing hub failed twice. I got tired of replaceing them so I bought an 8.0 tranny they have a heavier one way bearing hub due to the increased power and tourqe of the 8.0 engine. Installed the FOC that alone made a huge weight difference those one way bearing hubs just can't hold up to the extra weight. So far no problems, my only problem is finding time to run my trucks!

after trying it again the truck moves now but only stay in second gear, it will not shift to first. So i pulled the trans again and the larger of the 2 speed gears will only spin once way and it stops the other, but the smaller of them spins freely both ways.. should they both only spin one way and stop the other???

8.0 or 4.6? Sounds like a snaped pin I'm not positive I have a couple of tranny's laying around I'll open one up and take a look.

its an 8.0. its weird i have pulled this thing apart 4 times now and cant see anything broke. its just in second all the time.it seems to me that both of them should spin one way and not the other but only the bigger of the stops and the other just spins

If the files upload properly you can see the differences between the 8.0 & 4.6

With the shift lever pushed in and the main gears facing you. The first gear should spin freely both directions this is second speed gear.

The second gear (this is your low speed gear) should only spin freely clockwise, if you press your thumb against the centrifugal clutch it should only spin clock wise but with slight resistance while holding the clutch. Same goes for the shift lever pulled out.

The centrifugal clutch kicks into second gear only when a specific rpm is reached and kicks out when the rpm drops.

Now there is another gear behind the second gear! That gear connects to a gear that turns the out drives. Shift lever pulled out is fwd, if you turn the out drive facing you clockwise the low speed gear should lock and also turn clockwise. If you reverse the direction counter clockwise only the drive shaft gears should turn neither main gear should turn.

I hope this helps. I have it open ask away. I don’t believe the problem is the tranny.

ok heres an update. Im 99% sure its the one way bearing. Ihave overlooked that the whole time because it grabs fine in my hand but i got to thinking obviously the motor has alot more torque than what i can put on it. so i pull it out and there is a very small piece of the innter ring mising out of it. The thing that sucks is that it is 30 bucks from team associated and i cant find it anywhere else, and that seems alot for a damn bearing....lol

are the roller bearing sloppy? the price sounds right for the bearing sure you haven't lost a drive pin?

if you order the one way? go ahead and get the FOC. You wont have any more tranny problems if you rid of that extra mass.

The picture! Would have liked to see how bad it was, glad it's all good now! It will happen again if you come out of the hole hard or if you to wheelie from a start. The reverse design is solid, but that extra weight is just too much for the one way! The only other week point I have found is the small wheel bearings! I have a fix for it, if you have problems PM me!

You should be able to hammer it with no worries!
