Default mip on-board temp??

Personally, I've had bad luck with on-board temp gauges (MIP & PCRC). I ended up getting a raytec mini-temp gun.

The Venom temp monitor is a good tool, it has highest temp memory button so you don't have to worry about guessing what the temp was when you measure it in the pits or bring it back to you while bashing and costs as little as $27 around ebay and $31 retail. I've heard good things about MIP's Temp2 but I like Venom products and tech support.

I agree with Kuma, the Venom onboard temp works great. I use one on my PBS and it works like a charm. It's priced reasonably too.

I use the mip temp gage pictured above and it seems to work good.

Where do you attach the probe, near the top or bottom of the cylinder head? I have tried both places and the difference is about 100* from top to bottom.

If you have 1 or 2 nitro cars, putting a venom on-board temp monitor is a great way to go. If you have 4 or more, it's more cost effective to get a hand held unit.

I agree that the peak temp feature on the venom is good to have (unfortunately you can't have that feature on a temp gun).

The temp probe on the loop goes underneath the bottom of the head where the head meets the block. The probe also needs to be at 90 degrees from the exhaust port for accurate reading. Putting the probe on the head does you no good.

Here's how to install it: http://venom-racing.com/inst/vtm.htm

If you're concerned about being able to use the MIP or Venom on more than one car, attach the unit to whichever vehicle you're using with velcro. Not only can you easily swap it from one car to another, the velcro also dampens alot of the vibrations.

I've got mine velcro'd to the rear shock tower but I only have one car, just makes it easy to remove for cleaning. My friend has a Raytech gun but he's gotta go through the body to get an accurate reading and he cant seem to get a good spot so he was wanting to borrow the on board so he could see what its runnin with the body. With the gun you could measure all kinds of cool stuff(brakes, tires, parking lot)but you could also forget to bring it or something.I'd rather just have it on the car and always reading ...just pull it up and look,no searchin for the gun
