What's the point of building a "classic" clone?Sort of defeats the purpose of having a classic, doesn't it?

Not trying to hurt anyones feelings but most knock offs are cheap for a reason. I suggest you post this exact thread on rctech.net and see what they say before you spend a penny on it. You are basing your opinion on the one person who replied positively here with one post on this forum.

For the clones that are offered on that site, people have gone back to post reviews on how they turned out and the stories have been positive. I dont mean to be a d!ck about it but if I could afford the real deal we wouldnt be having this conversation. Besides, the question isnt what do u think or would you buy it. Even if some of the parts need to be replaced for whatever reason, it would still be cheaper than but the Tamiya kit. I just wanted to know wha it was a clone of so I could compair prices between the two. But both look spot on. Well see........ Didnt wanna spend more than $250, its not like I race and need something fancy.

I don't get it, seems like it's justifying buying a blow-up doll because you say you can't afford a girlfriend.

If you can't afford a specific real car, scale back your needs and get something real more in your budget.

pro drivers say that its not the same and it flexes over the place.

You may not notice its a bad car since you dont drive as hard as a pro does, but it may be hard for u to drive as good as you could with the real deal i guess. I wouldnt mind having one, but people are going to judge.

What i would do, Almost every brand is at the release of a new chassis. You should look into an xray t2/t3 or a tc5 which $250 can buy. the losi jrx-s is right under $200 and its a good car thats not as popular. this way if you go to the track, you wont get any weird looks, and probably more respect. thats just the way it works. Plus you will get the car quicker since it will be in th US.

ive had bad experience with bootleg cars such as redcat and other brands. you can get a OFNA JL10e GT from a-main for $120 or a tamiya TA05 V2 for under 250 psh and even at that u can get an HPI Sprint 2 Sport for under 250 and thats RTR. i have both a TA05 and TT01 and am very satisfied with both and on the other hand i have a redcat that leaves me in shame all the time.

I have a Sprint 2 Drifter now but want something to put together and work on over the winter months. I'll look into those kits listed above and see what'll be in the budget. Thanks to those that really helped. Joe

How about the TB EVO IV from Tamiya? At $230 it falls in your price cap and has all the nice bling you are looking for. I don't really care about the feed back you see on the knock off site they will always be inferior to the real deal. Just trying to save you a hard lesson as I think most people here would agree. You said so yourself you aren't made of money so spend it wisely.

Just so you know I have a TB EVO IV and I really like the kit. Here is a link to my build thread:

Browse RCtech's for sale section, im sure you will find an alternative cheaper, and even closer to you.

actually u may find a real used trf416 for less or close to $250. Like i said this is the begging of a new line of cars from manufacturers. $250 Is alot towards a used chassis.

That Tamiya TB Evo, I'm liking the shaft driven idea. I've already broke 2 belts in the Sprint and that's with the rear mods already done. How old is that chassis and are parts still available for it?

The TA05V2 is belt drive like your Sprint so you may have the same issues bashing it around in a parking lot. You can still get parts for the EVO IV but Hop Up's are starting to get a little scarce. Ebay still has most of the parts you'd need though. The most common parts you would be replacing would be the hub carriers, suspension arms and swing shafts which are still in abundance. If you are looking for something that has a bigger part support I also suggest the TB03. Shaft drive so no worrying about torn belts great for parking lots.

Now that I'm looking at it, Team Associated has the TC4 which is also shaft driven. Benefit to that is, Towerhobbies offers there "easy pay" option on it and it's RTR for only $234. Plus I can also do some upgrades over the winter months if it really needs it. Yeah I think that's what I'm going after. I wont have to worry about killing belts and parts can be found pretty much anywhere. What do you guys think? I know they have the TC5 and the TC6 is going to be released soon but both are belt driven and out of my price range.

They only made about a million-trillion TC3 kits (shaft driven), they're on eBay all the time, so they should be available for like forever, and there are only about a million hop-up parts that can be had too.

tb03 all the way, smooth as a belt drive yet bullet proof drivetrain, also has the trf look due to the suspension design almost identicle to the trf416
