Default Servo Question

Sorry for the noob question but are servos on any kind of standard? Does one size fit 1/10 scale cars universally and another fit1/8 universally? I am doing my first build this weekend (Tamiya Dulahunter) and want to get a good metal gear servo for it.

servos are pretty universal
my 1/12th, 1/10th, and 1/8th all use the same servos (actually my 1/12th, and 2 of my 1/8ths have the same exact servo))
just stay away from micro servos those are for 1/16ths, and under

Yea, just basically the real difference is preferred torque for each one, or minimum torque rather</p>

And you have the large scale servos for 1/5 and 1/6 scale which measures about 30x60 mm, these are to big to fit in the 1/10 and 1/8 cars. Look out for the servos which measures 20x40 mm, these are the one you want.

the hitech 645mg may take care of you,

no need to spend a ton on the servo, in your application torque is more important than speed

1 is in my 1/12th scale Jammin .5 that I mentioned cause the plastic geared futabas were being eaten by that RC left and right.

yep, great servos, silkey smooth, quick and very strong.
hobby partz has a coreless digital high speed and torque metal gear seveo (mouthfull) for $17, its not super smooth but its fast as hell.[X(]
