Rustler VXL Turned Crawler
Well, today I found out just how versatile a Traxxas Rustler is. My Rustler is normally a VXL equipped, 40mph plus basher, but today I found out it could even crawl. I am in the process of making my Bandit a trail truck (weird I know), but since it isn't currently running I decided to test out the new motor in my Rustler. It seems to crawl decent, and really good for being 2wd. Here are the specs on it: 50t Fireball crawler motor paired with XL-5 waterproof ESC, rasied body to give extra clearance, RPM bumper, geared 18/86, and otherwise stock Rustler VXL.

You're defiantly going to have to get some a better suspension set up by looking at your pics, especially since it's a 2wd. IMO I would be turning that Rustler into a trail truck instead of a bandit.

RE: Rustler VXL Turned Crawler
what do you mean IF it works?
I see a picture with a front wheel up on a box, (and the other front wheel about 4 inches up in the air.... )
we can already tell by that picture that it doesn't and won't work

lol, you make me laugh. its on a slick table and a slick 4 inch tall box. i can almost garuantee you a box stock SCX10 wouldn't be able to climb it. this was a pose for a good pic. and to whoever asked if the diff was locked, no, the diff is stock. i just wanted to test the electronics out in my Ruster since my Bandit isn't running currently and see just how well it could crawl.

RE: Rustler VXL Turned Crawler
the point isn't about being able to climb a box....
the point is that your suspension doesn't keep the wheels on the ground
as soon as the rear of your truck is on an uneven surface (like the front of your truck is in the picture), one wheel will be in the air and then your truck will be stuck because only the wheel in the air will have power because you have an open differential

your right, i'll admit that. but the point isn't for it to be a crawler. ITS A RUSTLER, A STADIUM TRUCK! after a while its going straight back to a VXL, like it should be. i was just doing a little experimenting, just seeing how versatile the Rustler really is. all i'm saying is it surprised me on how well it did, being what it is.

Lol. i don't think that he wants it to be crawling rocks or things that a real rock crawler can. just maybe a couple of books or pillows i guess.

this is why people switch to different forums on RC. becasue of people like you. yes, maybe this title is not 100% accurate, but good gosh! do you have to be a jerk about it? come on, i'm just trying to say that a Rustler is an extremely versatile car for what it is. that's all i'm gonna say...

RE: Rustler VXL Turned Crawler
you started a thread claiming your rustler was now a crawler because you put a slow motor in it
if you actually modified your rustler and turned it into a semi capable crawler despite it's inherent limitations, then I'd give you congratulations
taking a picture of your RC with one wheel on a box does not mean it's a crawler
have fun with the hobby, it's supposed to be enjoyable, but putting a wheel on a box doesn't make a rustler a crawler any more than me throwing my RC in the air makes it a helicopter
really, did you want us to just tell you that you were the most innovative and awesome person ever for having the creativity and ingenuity to put a crawler motor in a rustler?
if so, I'm sorry and you're amazing, keep up the innovative work

Wha?! Boi whatch you is be smokin'?! The Rustler is a stadiu truck meant to drive off-road in high speed and that only. Not made for racing, not made for extreme jumping and deathly abuse. Just some dirt slingin' speed.
