TB-01 Rally Gearing with a Brushless Set-Up
Hello. I apologize for making a separate post when adding a new post to the existing TB-01 thread seems like the right thing to do - but I've noticed that responses to posts on that thread seem to come slower and slower lately, if at all.
So without further ado...
I'm curious to know what gearing everybody is running in their TB-01 rally cars. I'm using a 3300KV brushless motor in combination with a 58spur/21pinion ratio. I started out with the original stock 61/16 ratio, but it was severely under-geared and hitting top speed about 1/5 of the way down the main straight at our nearest local track. I know that conventional wisdom says to gear down if the motor/esc is getting too hot, but in this case I think I was overheating as a result of winding the motor all the way for just about the entire lap.
So I tried gearing up to the lower 58/21 ratio - but I'm still overheating. It isn't ridiculously/dangerously hot...but it is hot enough that I never run out a full battery pack before pulling the car off the track and letting it cool for a good long time.
Does anyone else have a brushless system in their rally? And if so, what gearing are you using, and what kind of temps are you experiencing?
Thanks!
