schumacher x28 turbo in savage build
Just ordered a new schumacher picco 28 turbo motor for my savage build,
having gone with cen diffs in my build, i have now found that even with a 15/47 clutchbell and spurgear combo the savage does not have the same get up and go with my lrp30 engine installed,
so i looked into getting a picco p3 28 but the price of them was putting me off,
after a bit of looking around i found the schumacher x28 turbo with rotostart for just £116,
the seller also has another 10 of them at this price and ships internationally for a reasonable price
hope this one runs better than the picco wasp 28 motor i bought used a while back,
anyone recommend what heat range of a turbo plug i should get for break in of this engine?

This is the same engine as the pullstart picco 28 p3 monster truck engine,
but this schumacher picco 28 comes with a rotostart backplate fitted,
and also turbo head button which is suppose to produce even more power and or rpm`s,
the picco p3 28 costs £179.99 in my area but i can get the schumacher picco 28 turbo for just £116

I just ordered one. A little birdie told me that OFNA has stopped carrying the Picco brand so its going to get harder to get them, just an FYI

i just had a look on the schumacher website page for the vehicle that uses that engine [link=http://www.racing-cars.com/pp/Car_Showroom/Fusion_28_Turbo.html](click here)[/link]. its on a 1/10 on-road touring, makes sense for the shorter heatsink (IMO, that heatsink is as flamboyant as ferrari )...
but, is this appropriate for a 1/8 monster truck? from my understanding, the heavier the vehicle, the more low-end torque required to get it going. won't your savage have more stress on a engine designed for a smaller lighter touring car (strictly onroad)?

also if you wanted to buy an ofna picco 28 turbo with rotostart, you cant as they only do the turbo model as a bump start engine,
so the schumacher x28 turbo rotostart engine is more powerful than the ofna picco 28 pullstart engine,
i actually prefer the schumacher heatsink to the ofna one as it sits lower and should be less prone to getting road rash on the savage.

Couldnt you just buy the turbo head button and put in a pull start picco? Is the sleeve / port timings different between the bump start version and pull start version?

As you see if you buy the pull start version you can drop a turbo head button and shim accordingly and then you have the same engine as the schumacher turbo 28.
Just buy the Picco 28 w pull start
Notice the pull start crank has the tab at the end connecting rod mount and the bump start does not
Again just buy the Pull start version your going to spent enough money to convert when you could buy the pull start and have it modded!!!

RE: schumacher x28 turbo in savage build
My new engine came in the post today,
and as its been raining alot today i had to leave work early,
so i was home already when the postman arrived [8D]
i was surprised to see the engine come had come in a picco box as i was sure that schumacher would have had their name all over it,
having set the picco onto the savage engine mount i could see plenty of clearance allround and am reasonably confident that these engines will fit into a stock savage with room for the fuel tank along side,
Unfortunatley i will not get to run this motor or do break in until july
as im in need of a steering servo for my savage and have to wait until i go on holiday,
as she who must be obeyed has stopped me spending until then,
but hey at least there will be a genuine reason for me to go visit some hobby shops

Even if it was too big, you can always chuck it on a lathe and turn it down some Nice looking engine regardless

If it runs half as good as it looks il be more than happy,
id hate to have to destroy the good looking heatsink to have it fit on my truck
tib you had me worried this past couple days thinking that it wasnt gonna fit in the savage[]
sealing her up at the moment and fitting it in the truck tonight,
i can see my extended madforce loosing a steering servo very soon

if it doesn't fit I have plenty of used Picco 28 heads here and I would be willing to give you one at no charge...just cover the shipping and its all good.....

Thanks for your kind offer tib,
when i trial fitted it,
just by setting it onto the engine mount in the truck it appeared to clear every thing around it just fine,
so thanks but im good this time,
there is a hot plug pre-installed in this motor will this do for breakin?
what needle settings do you recommend i start at for breakin?
