Default quadra 50 prop

Hello,

This is my first posting. Thanks for any help. I have a quadra 50 in a 1.3 scale balsa USA Sopwith Pup. I just bought it. There are no markings on the prop. What prop sizes are recommended for this engine??

Thanks,
Dan

I run a 20 X 10 Master Airscrew Classic on my Q50. It tachs at 7100-7200. The airplane weighs 23 lbs.

You may also want to consider a 20 X 6-10 as well.

In a Sopwith Pup you want to fly scale I presume. For a Q50 that I use to have in a Byron Christen Eagle a 20x10 worked quite well although the engine was quite heavy compared to todays current crop. I would suggest a 22x8 for a more scale flight. A Pup is no Extra 300.

A 22 X 8 may also do the trick, but I would also ensure that the engine tachs 6800-7200 on the ground. My 23 lb. 80" Byron P-47 flys scale with the 20 X 10. It's not a real barn burner, but it is not under powered by any means. I don't think that prop clearance will be a problem either.

I've been flying a 27 pound Balsa USA 1/3 Pup for 15 years with a Quadra 50 swinging a Zinger 24-6. It has about 18 pounds of static pull, which is enough for very realistic flight. The big prop gets the air flow outside that monster cowling. Remember it's not a stunt plane. Take your time on the takeoff run. Keep it on the ground with a little down elevator until it picks up speed then slowly lift off. It will want to come off in about 10 feet but don't let it! I learned that the hard way a long time ago.

Have fun with it

Thanks for you advice.I'll give those prop combinations a try.At this rate it won't be until spring. Snows coming soon.

A good friend of mine gave a new Quadra 50 he purchased many years ago.  Where can I get a engine mannual?  I just want to know the low and high settings for the carb, and what percentage of two stroke oil I should use!  <div>
