Reeds warped and tattered
My 3W 50 has some raggedy reeds in it. With less than 2 gals of fuel thru it why would the reeds be warped and such. The reeds were open about an 1/8 in., never seen this before with such low time. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I did not call AI yet, I"ll try him on mon. Also looked at flipping them over but the warp is more of a twist than a bent up problem. Anyone know were I can get some reed material of a better Quiailty to cut my own.
There was a thread last week I think about another 3W with a bad reed. The fella said it was not warrentee because the reeds are an expenable item.

A small warp shouldn't matter much because when the piston comes down the crankcase pressure will blow the reed closed. If it's cracked or chipped.....then it's time to replace.

w8ye your right, it will pop and not run. I did get it to start one time with a megatron starter. The engine has not been reved hard because I'm still breaking it in. Does not make much sense with so little time on it.

Jim is correct. Overreving or the reed stop bent out to far will cause flutter. Is the reed valve carbon fibre or fibreglass. At any rate you should be able to get the same material from a saw shop or gocart hop up shop and make your own. just make sure it's the same thickness or slightly thicker to get it above the resonate speed of the engine.

The carbon fibre ones are stronger but they are stiffer for the same thickness. If I was me I would get one the same thickness and one with the same flex as your fibre glass one and try them both. Just get them oversize if you can and cut to fit.
