Default Brison 3.2 (52.32cc) engine in a TF GS Warbird

I have the Top Flite Giant Scale Corsair kit, retracts & fiberglass cowl that I was going to make as my next plane. I picked up a new Brison 3.2 (52.32cc) engine at a swap meet for a good price and intended to use it in this plane. The Brison is 4.4lbs with muffler & electronics. The data sheet that came with the engne says the thrust is 26lbs and can use the following props 20x10, 20x12 or 22x8. Do you think this is a good engine for this plane? I'm concerned about having to add a lot of weigh to the nose to get the plane to balance on the proper CG location.

Other options are I could sell the Brison and get a G62 or I could sell the Corsair stuff and get one of the other TF GS kits if one of those don't need as much weigh on the nose to get the CG correct.

What do you think?

The Brison 3.2 and the G62 are very close in power with the G62 having a very slight edge and is also heavier . They are both very high quality engines that will last a very long time .
Hmmm.. which to choose . I have both engines and I usually prefer the G62 for warbirds , It is heavier and warbirds usually need the nose weight. If I can balance the plane out with the Brison 3.2, I use the Brison to save the weight

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Brison engine looks very nice and I would like to use it but from what I have read about the TF Corsair it needs about 1 to 2 lbs of extra weight with a G62. So I'm just not sure what to do yet.

I did some more research on the Top Flite GS warbird kits. There is a very long build thread on RCU for the Corsair and almost everyone uses the G-62 or larger. A few used DA55 or DLE55. The planes are coming in around 27lbs to 31lbs with 1 to 2 lbs of extra lead in the nose. The G62 is about 1.75lbs heaver then the Brison 52 so I would have to add 2.75 to 3.75 lbs of lead to the nose. On the Brison web page it says the 53cc engine is good for planes weighing 16 to 26 lbs and has a 26lb thrust.

I found the following on Top Flite’s web page;

P-47 20 to 22 lbs total weight; wing loading 34.7 to 38.2 oz/sq ft
P-51 18 to 23 lbs total weight; wing loading 32 to 35 oz/sq ft
Corsair 24 to 26 lbs total weight; wing loading 41 to 44.5 oz/sq ft

The Corsair is the heaviest one and from what I have read hear on RCU they build much heavier then what TF is saying so the wing loading is even worse.
So the options are build the Corsair with the Brison 53 and hope I can keep it light or sell the engine and get a G-62 or sell the kit and build a different plane or keep the Brison for a different plane.
People seem to really like the Brison engine with a 22x8 prop for sport planes like Yak or Extra that weighs around 18lbs.

So I have decided to sell the Corsair and get the P-47. The P-47 just looks like a better match for the Brison engine and I like the looks of the P-47 better than the Corsair.

Don’t know if you have seen this video but this guy is flying a TF GS P-47 with the DLE55. It looks like that engine has no problem flying that plane.

I have the TF GS P47 with Sachs 72cc motor up front, swinging the Fuchs 21x11 4bl prop very well. You will need bigger than 50cc to swing a scale 4bl prop. Otherwise, the Brison will be fine.

Keep in mind that the video showed the P47 giant ARF which comes out lighter than the built kit. Ditto with the P51 and new giant Corsair. 50/55 CC engines are perfect for the ARFs. I have Brison 3.2s in my P51 and P47 and they scoot very well. I'm putting a DLE55 in my new Corsair ARF...should be fantastic. If you must build the kits, it is crucial to keep the tail LIGHT! My kit built Top Flite Corsair came out at 33# and flew like a lead-sled because I didn't pay attention to the tail.

Thanks for the information Mike. I will keep it as light as I can. I'm not planning to do any scale stuff or anything that's not needed to make it fly.

What things can be done to keep the tail light but not affect the strength of the structure? A few things I came up with are weight of the wood and use a light tail wheel assembly.
