broken shaft?
Hi,
im trying to service the shat of a Purple Light speed boat as the flexishaft turns but the prop doesnt
not having a manual at hand (providedthey exist ) just dont know where to start.
the propand grub screws are out but it seemsI willneed to remove the motorfrom the hull to takeout the flexible stub shaft . Is that right?
in the photos you can see the transom without propeller and grub screw
in the other the flexible shat entering the stern tube and the clutch cover
thanks for your help

RE: broken shaft?
When you're saying that the propshaft is turning but the prop isn't then it's probably the drive dog that's loose. If the grub screw isn't seated in the flat spot on the shaft properly then that can be the problem. From what little that I can see in the pictures it appears that it has been slipping as the flat spot is worn.

RE: broken shaft?
I had the same thing happen to me the other day, the shaft would spin and the prop would spin until I put it in the water, then nothing, shaft was spinning and prop didnt move. What it was, was the joint on the flex to the prop shaft had broke.
Took the flex cable and shaft apart, cleaned them both and loctite the shaft into the flex, and now back on the water.

RE: broken shaft?
Hi
thanks for ur help
the problem is that the joint between flexible and rigid shaft is broken
the question is how can I take the shaft out to substitute or repair?
should it come out from the prop side?
or should I remove to engine to take it out from the clutch
Thanks in advance

first remove the stub shaft from the back of the boat + the flex shaft from the clutch, now you have both parts of your drive cable clean any remaining glue from the stub shaft you may need to drill it out but it MUST be clean !.
next clean off and remaining glue from the flex shaft ( use a wire brush + sand paper ) make sure you remove all the glue.
now both parts are clean use LOCTITE 648 GLUE ONLY, put some in the stub shaft and on the flex cable, push the two parts together.
clean any overspill glue off with a rag, leave the cable for 24 hours for the glue to set. DO NOT PUT THE CABLE BACK INTO THE BOAT FOR 24 HOURS !
put the drive dog back onto the shaft and make sure the grub screw is tight.

RE: broken shaft?
Almost sure his propshaft is stepped-down ferrule style .. like the black one in the picture.
The propshaft can not be pulled out (backwards) , you'll have the dismantle the strut ,
and slide it out to the front.
