Default li-ion charging question

I just got a battery which is a 2s 800mah Li-ion.

Do I charge this the same as my Lipo batteries?

My thunder AC6 doesnt have a setting that says its just for Li-ion.

they can only be charged to 4.1v per cell and a max rate 0.5-0.8c....

what are they for?

It depends on what voltage termination it is. Li-ion sometimes is a generic term that covers a lot. Many specific li-ions terminate at 4.1 volts.

so it should be safe then right? Lipos only charge to 4.1v per cell.

Its for a 1/16 brushed RC.

no, it not good to over charge a Li ion....

Ur lipo charger charges up to 4.2v per cell.

dont even bother with them, yeah it sucks if u just brought them,
get some lipos and use them as a paperweight or something

I charged it on my charger....just didnt let it get past 8.2v

I have a replacement charger coming, just didnt want to wait if I didnt have to.

Why call this a paper weight? I just ran the truck and it has quick acceleration. More than most 1/16 scale models I have had. But then, those all used 7.2v nimh batts...which put out less amps and weigh a good deal more.

The li-ion comes RTR with the model. It may not be as common as lipo, but its better IMO than a nimh battery.

sorry i didnt mean it in a bad way, I just assumed it was cheap, and rather than risk anything I thought it would be a good idea to just replace it with a cheap lipo.

hey good to see u have it all worked out.

I forget, do Li-ion batts have to have LVC like lipos? If not, that may be why they were used for this model. I dont know for sure, but the esc may not have LVC.

as a general runle they cant go below 3v/cell, some batteries have a LVC build in. what brand batteries do u have?

u could allways use a multimeter and run the car on a bench and see if a LVC kicking in?

no idea the brand
the li-ion comes with the new redcat tremor 1/16 models.

I just got mine today. I ran it a bit and the acceleration was really good for a brushed model.

If they cant go below 3.0v, then Im sure the ESC has LVC. I just haven run it long enough to find out.

The tremor is under $100 RTR. You get the li-ion, a 4wd chassis with slipper clutch, 2.4ghz radio blah blah blah. Ive only run it for 5 minutes, but I gotta say its a pretty good rig for the money.

dammm nice one...
must admit i was at the track the other day and a mate had his mini traxxas summit there with a 540 titan motor Xl5 ecs & a 2s lipo, and damm that thing was fast for a brushed car... these little cars are bringing back brushed motors

Im getting a sc18 this week cant wait.. the losi micro SCT is just to small

yeh, when you take a smaller model and use a lipo it really ups the performance. Between the higher voltage and the lighter weight of the pack, the difference in speed and especially acceleration is impressive.

Ive had the losi micro SCT. It was OK. I didnt like the battery door tho. It screwed on[:'(]

Other than that it was better than most micros.

slapped a 540 tamiya silver can in my merv cause I found the BL setup too fast. I find its now just right its fast, but doesn't destroy the wing or backflip on the slightest throttle blip

yeh, ive had to mini's with BL systems. when a mini does more than 20mph, you spend way to much time walking over to it to flip it back over

indeed.
a replacement brushed ESC and motor costs about the same as a cheapo brushless system these days.

Ive had a brushless mini summit. I thought it would be cool. But all the power with a short/narrow wheel base just didnt work for me.

I threw a HW 5600kv combo in my recon could tell it was never meant for the power as one of the rims exploded, and the steering servo died(I'm guessing from the stress put on it from hitting bumps) wrecking the RC. I got it mostly back together(after crafting a few parts, and modding RC18 parts to fit), but still am having an issue with a few of the modded parts fitting just right. I actually shelved it for a few months with no work might have to pick it up and make it go ridiculously fast again .

Yeh, i bought the tremor partly to make a review vid for youtube.

I think I will bash it a bit as stock....and then throw a BL system from my turnigy car into it. I cant say for sure, but the fact that the truck has a slipper clutch may mean it will hold upto brushless OK.
