honey comb experience ???
Hello Friends:
I am experiencing with honey comb, someone has experience with this material ? At the moment I only made flat plates qith diferent materials, I put photos. In the fibre glass plates I put peel-ply in one side.
But... the question is how aply the epoxi over the second layer over the honey comb in a mold ???
Because this plates I made between glass and I laminate the fiber over each glass, but in a mold one layer is laminated direct over the mold and the second is laminated over the honey comb.
Many thanks in advance.

RE: honey comb experience ???
Carlos, you will get the best results using polyurethane sheet, comes in varying thicknesses and the thinner sheets will conform to compound curves if required. Vac bagging and resin infusion will yield the best results in terms of strength/weight ratio.
Hope that helps.

Hi Rob:
I made this plates only for see the structural strength, but now I want aply in the molds, with vacum of course, but the question is how to aply the layer on the honey comb ?
If I use infusion system the honey comb gaps will be filled, right ?
Thanks for your help.

RE: honey comb experience ???
You would need to do it in two steps. First do your gel coat and fiberglass layer under vacuum as you would with any lay up and let it fully cure. Then the second step would be to apply a low viscosity resin as an adhesive for the honeycomb (nomex honeycomb is flexible) to stick too. Lay the honeycomb in the mold. Then you need to prepeg any of the fiberglass layers that will be applied over the honeycomb. Slow cure resin is a must, it will give you the time needed to place it properly and set up your vacuum. Then let it cure.
If you have an autoclave or oven you can do all of this in one step using prepeg cloth with a heat cured resin under a vacuum.
Good luck!

I'm wondering why you couldn't lay out the correct amount of cloth on a flat table, wet it out, then, pick it up and lay it on the honeycomb?
Not too many of us have pre-preg.

Pre-Preg is not that hard to get. The best way is to lay-up and cure skins is under vac.
Then use film adhesive on inner skins, lay out the core put top skin on pull no more that 8-10 Inches and cure in oven @ 200Deg for about 2.5 hours.
The one problem you get with trying to use non cured material on core especially nomex is you will get imprints of the cells all over.
