Default RADIO CASE

Ok here is the deal, I picked up one of those aluminum cases for 20 bux great deal at home depot I have 2 radios for it. I purchased some foam (white from a fabric store)
I wanted it to look like a pro job but when finished, my wife asked me if I had ever worked in a butcher shop ( get the idea) It did look like I cut it with a chain saw.
what can I do???????????????????

Didn't foam come with the case? I bought an aluminum case from Lowes that came with a 2 1/2" thick piece of foam in it. The foam was perforated through it's thickness into 1/2" squares. I just placed my transmitter on it and began seperating the perforation around it. Then I removed the transmitter and pulled the foam completly apart. I also nibbled out just enough of the square sections to make a section to keep the antennae in. Maybe you could check with Home Depot or Lowes and see if they sell that perforated foam seperately. Or maybe they can get it for you. I've been considering redoing my case for two radio's. I'll post back here if I have any luck finding that foam.

The aluminum case with the pick and pluck foam is the one from Lowe's. The odd part about it is that the one at Home Depot and the one from Lowe's are the same brand.

Use two layers of foam, one thinner layer for the radio back to rest on and the other layer (a thicker one, slightly thicker than the depth of your radio) on top of the thin. Mark a slightly undersized silhouette of your radio on the thick layer and cut vertically through. When cut to the shape you feel is right, use spray adhesive to join top and bottom layers.

Good Luck

An electric carving knife is the ideal tool to cut foam.

I bought the Home depot case and used the "Egg Crate" foam to pad the transmitters. Works great.

I have one of those Wally World cases. I fit my 9C and a 6X in there PLUS a few extra props and cables for the triton. THEN I also fit some rubber bands and smaller props underneath the foam. No problem closing either. My case did not come from Wally World, but is extremely similar.

Any sort of protective case will work. Foam rubber came with mine. It was pre punched. I would say to get a bunch of foam rubber and go at it with a sharp utility knife or XACTO. A soldering iron may work also, don't know though.

I bought the Aluminum Pistol case at Wally-World for $29.00, 2" styrofoam in crafts section for $1, and 1 yard of Black cloth in sewing section for $1.99 . Removed foam from case (in case I wanted to convert case back later), cut styrofoam to fit, cut-out styofoam for Transmitter, Multimeter, leads, cables, ect........ Covered styrofoam with black cloth and now have a professional looking case. I opted for the $29 aluminum case due to the fact it has Combination locks on it, which keeps anyone from fumbleing with my Tx., and is more protective.

The Wallmart case does fit two radios. I put one in facing the top of the case and the other facing the bottom of the case. Works great. I cut the foam with a new blade and sizzors to trim it up.

Saturate the foam with water and chuck it in the freezer. Once it's frozen, have at it with an electric knife.
