How much headroom do you have in your garage?

One of the best methods I've found is an old ladder or just a couple of 2 x 4's.
One end attaches to a couple of hangers hinged to drop down, the other rests
on a swinging trapeze. lots of storage totally out of the way.

That currently holds a few conventional models, another rack made from 1 inch sq
steel tube holds another jet & a couple of wings against the wall. - John.

I store light and heavy models on utility shelves. Three very large models and the wings can be stored on the unit pictured. Gets the planes out of the way and gives me plenty of room to think about how to clean this mess up.

I have a two car garage. The area between the two doors I built a rack. It's a 2x4 frame with a heavy base. I put heavy duty adjustable track on both sides. I use the heavy shelf brackets lined with foam tubing and adjust as needed. The base is offset because I put mostly fuselage on one side and wings and small planes on the other.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. Also, by storing jets in the garage, does the heat during summer months and high humidity harm the jets electronics, turbine, or even the jet airframe?

This is a 1/4 scale Panther. With no wings it is 40 some odd pounds. The bike lift works well with some safety loops under the plane in case the lift fails.

I have a 5x5m room in my house with a 3m ceiling and I store my aircraft on the wall using commonly found wall and shelf brackets. The walls they are on are supporting brick walls as the other 2 are lathe & plaster so would never take the weight.

To store wings/misc stuff I cut kitchen panel board to suit.

I have found it easier to store my family in the garage and use the main house for the jets. That way the jets stay warm in the winter.
Just saying !

The garage is a crowded place but there is lots of room if you just utilize it. I have a three car garage with three cars in it and a several large Jets and Prop planes and have found that I can pack away quite a few air frames using the spaces above the bays with home built brackets and shelving built around the edge of the garage and above the normal areas. The pictures show racks I built using over the counter steel pipe and fittings from any home depot or plumbing store. The ceiling hung brackets consist of a standard pipe flange that is screwed securely to the ceiling. I then just used a 6 inch pipe screwed into the flange then to a 4 way pipe junction and on down to a pipe tee. You can see in the pictures how the brackets that the planes sit on are screwed together and the wood shelving I have placed across the pipe supports.

These shelves are very strong and secure and allow me to fit 4 full size planes and their wings hanging from the ceiling. These 4 shelves store a 35% comp Aft prop plane. A Flash. A Tamjets F-16 and not shown, a Large Comp Arf Skygate Viper.

Also you may be able to see some shelving I have built high up on the walls of the garage in the background of the second picture. The shelves stick out 22 inches (Why -- free scrape ply wood) and have a 24 inch vertical clearance. Lots of large and small air frames and other important "Guy Stuff" will fit up there --- and that space is almost never used in the garage.

Not the perfect solution but It has worked pretty good for me.

I use $9 bike lift from harbor freight. Works great plus I can just lower them down to my table with wheels

I keep everything inside the house, and in a carpeted bedroom. I don't have kids, I have jets!
Two are hanging from a bicycle rack that are set up exactly like jofunk's Panther, but in a bedroom. The rest are on the floor resting on a padded stand that keeps the wheels off the ground. One is on its nose and leaning against the wall. Yeah, I have tire marks on the wall too.

Like the industrial shelving idea as it makes getting to the jets easier. Unfortunately it also takes up the spaces in my garage where my wife thinks she has to park her car. So no choice but to use the overhead.

A shop would really be nice!

The garage is my work space. My wife's car has never been in there. That's the key. Once they get the car in there, they will never park outside again. Also my garage has low ceiling. So no lift for me.

The old ladder reused & the metal tube wall rack mentioned in my previous post.

My wife stopped parking in the garage years ago when she backed out the minivan sans driver's side mirror.
