RE: Hawker Hunter vs BMW M3.
Yes, the beemer driver had the t/c switched off, though on a previous run he managed to keep the 300+ horses under the hood more in check. Classic case for 4 wheel drive I think. Also stricktly speaking the jets are not airworthy and therefore not supposed to leave the ground, but who can blame them for a short 'hop'
The occasion was the Cold War Jets meeting at Bruntingthorpe on Sunday, where they blow the cobwebs off many classic jets to help keep them in running condition. I took a load of mpeg stuff that day, including reheated jet dragsters with lots of smoke and flames http://www.btinternet.com/~robrow/Mov01549.mpg easily hitting over 300mph before dragchute deployment and the world's first jetliner DH Comet http://www.btinternet.com/~robrow/Mov01533.mpg
This is a low hour EE Lightning getting a wringing out with only the bottom fire lit http://www.btinternet.com/~robrow/Mov01565.mpg
We were stood only 10 feet from the runway and some of the a/b runs were absolutely gut wrenching, setting off most of the nearest car alarms, wearing ear defenders does nothing to defend you from these shock waves going through the body !

I thought maybe this thread was a price comparison. There was a Hunter at Oshkosh, apparently airworthy, for sale for $50K. I would guess the engine had to be at the end of it's run though.

Glad you all like the short movies.
UK Flier....I notice you have a pic of Gordon's Victor there. He flew it together with the big Vulcan but unusually did encounter some cross wind problems when landing which for some reason did'nt seem to affect the Vulcan http://www.btinternet.com/~robrow/MOV01534
The fullsize Victor had problems with the #3 donk but did manage a slugish 3 engine blast last thing http://www.btinternet.com/~robrow/Mov01568

Fell in love with the Victor at RAF Cosford , seeing the victor and vulcan together in the air at once was unforgettable experience, travelled all the way up to RAF Woodvale to see them again.
So there they were right on my doorstep last weekend and I didn't know.

The Vulcan and Victor will also be joined by a Valiant http://www.spyflight.co.uk/VAL.HTM next year to make the V-bomber force complete!
The sight and sound of those three in the air in formation should be something worth travelling to see.

Yepp, I bet it does. Also the acceleration tends to tail off a tad above 150mph while the other guy is just getting going
