Default Hitec 5805's

I am setting up a second 50cc plane and was looking at the hitec 5805 servos. I don't really do any 3D stuff and my IMAC style flying is poor at best, still learning. So I guess ultra precision would be lost on me. Has anyone used these on a 50cc plane?

Thanks,

Dennis

I've used the 645mg with great success in 50cc planes. Isn't the 5805 a digital servo? It appears that an analog servo would be fine for your your type of flying. Dan.

What servo are you going to use? AFAIK there's no such thing as a Hitec 5805 currently in production, or at least I couldn't find one.

I guess I am wondering abot the precision. My IMAC is poor, but I am trying to get better. That is why I Was asking about the digital servo. Also looking ar the Savox 0251 as a cheap digital for a second plane.
thanks,
Dennis

WOW! That thing is HUGE and weighs a ton, or seven ounces at any rate. I personally would not use such a servo in a model airplane. I've not used the Savox but folks seem to have good things to say about those servos, or even Spektrums (I think they are the same servo).

The one you listed has some pretty good numbers and I think it'd probably work out just fine for you. Be aware that when the model is just sitting like right after you turn it on, the servos will buzz as they are trying to find a neutral and it's common with digital servos.

You know Zeeb,
thanks for pointing that out...I never noticed how huge those things were. You see a servo in a picture and they all look the same size ! Anyway. I ordered 5 of the Savox 0251's. Those are the same size and weight as a Hitec 5645, but they have 222oz of torque at 6.0volts. I am putting them on a second 50cc Fly-model airplane.

regards,
Dennis

The 5805MG servo was designed for 1/5 scale RC cars, not for giant scale airplanes. Would not advise using that, the HS-7955TG would be a much better choice as 50CC airplanes are generally designed around standard sized servos, not mega scale servos...

These are all good choices for 50CC 3D airplanes:

-HS-7955TG
-HS-7954SH
-HS-7950TG
-HS-7956SHR rudder tray servo (excellent choice for pull pull rudder applications)
-HS-8335SH
-HS-8370TH
-HS-8385TH
-HSB-9370TH
-HSB-9380TH
-HSB-9485TH
-D-945TW
-D-950TW

You can of course find more info about these servos on our website or shoot me a private message and I'd be happy to help you out, all make plenty of torque on either 6.0V or 7.4V for 50CC airplanes and all are digital. Even though you are more of a sport flyer, it's still a good idea to have plenty of servo in a larger airplane. When things go wrong, they tend to go wrong very quickly so you definitely want to ensure you have some very high quality equipment in your airplane with a proven track record. Personally, I'd recommend the HS-7955TG. It's one of our most popular servos and has a proven history, along with the strongest gears in the industry in that size servo. HS-645MG is not advised as it's not a precise centering digital, and HS-5645MG (digital version of 645) doesn't make the necessary torque- for big airplanes that is. In smaller glow and electric sport models, they're plenty sufficient.

As nonessential as you think having a precise servo is in these airplanes, quite the opposite is true. Having very precise, strong, and durable servos is very important to have in these airplanes to keep the airplane from wandering around the sky in an 'un-trimmable' state. When you let go of the sticks, you want those servos to go back to center rock solid, not off-trim the airplane by a couple of degrees. Spending a little bit more on quality servos is always well worth it, makes flying more enjoyable and can help give you a much longer lasting airplane.

Thanks, I figured that out. I was only looking at the torque specs...I had no idea they were so huge. I ended up buying Savox servos for the plane.
