[b][:'(]I can't seem to make Loctite work.. is it the heat... residues or the magntetic inversion??
I have purcahsed (blue) loctite from at least three brands at different stores.. thi first one worked perefectly the first time I ised it on my Clou dancer to hold the nuts on my clud dancer[:-]... since then i only get a messy blueish residue that doesn't solidify.. I am using too much?
I've tried to use loctite (new loctite) on the cloud dancer without success.. so I purchased another tube (other brand) to use in my Swallow on a couple of linkages and the bolts on the engine and stil can't make it work!!!
any suggestion??

I use the "Locktite" brand (blue) and never had a problem. Make sure you shake it up good before applying a small amount. You only need enough to fill in the threads before the nut is applied and secured.

I think Ed might have hit your problem on the head. Maybe you are not shaking it enough. I also squeeze some out of the tip first to make sure I get the "shaken" product. One other thing, Blue loctite is made for larger fastners such as on a car. I believe the Loctite number is 242. I like to use Loctite 222 (purple) on my models. It is made for smaller threads. Remember that Loctite is ANEROBIC, and only works when little or no oxygen is present, ie.. between a nut and screw. So if you are trying to dab some on the end of a screw after the nut is on your wasting your time. Put a small dab on the screw and put the nut on. It should cure to full strength in 24 hours. Hope this helps!

They do make a spray "kicker" for it...
Spray one part or the other with it...put on a "lil" Loctite and put together...15 minutes you are up and running..
It also has a lifespan...could have bought old stock...

There IS a locktite made for assembled parts. It's green, very thin, and VERY permanent. It is applied AFTER tightening. I have a 1/2"-20 bolt that's been holding on a utility trailer for 5 years now...

Patrick-I used various types of loctite in hundreds of applications at work, and you have the answer above-CLEAN parts and shake the bottle before applying-a lot of people think loctite is a miracle drug, holds anywhere anytime, it is not.
and also as stated above, it drys in the ABSENCE of air-that is why the bottle comes only half full. Apply at base of nut and bolt and let it wick into the nut.
Check out the various types, there are charts available, I have forgetten which one is better for small fasteners, but I use the one that gunsmiths use for scope attachment that can be broken loose with some force., may be 202. Some types require heat to break the joint. Hope this helps. Flipstart

lI actually had the same query a few years while serving aboard a ship. Identical symptoms - dang stuff would NOT solidify! What was really frustrating was that the stuff is SO highly recommended, eh? Anyway, I emailed the product representative and he correctly identified what I was doing wrong. Loctite will NEVER solidify if it is exposed to air, ie, I was applying it to the tightened (exposed) threads and (sort of) expecting it to lock-down the nut. The correct way to use the stuff is to apply it to the threads, put the nut on and tighten - guarantee you'll never have a problem. By the way - this stuff is GREAT!

Just a reminder, DO NOT USE LOCTITE AND SMOKE!!! If you get some on your fingers, or cigarette/ect. and it goes up in smoke and you inhale it, it's VERY EXTREMELY BAD for you!!!
THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!

Ok here is what you need to do. If there is a chance of the glow fuel oil stuff on the surface. You need to clean it first with Rubbing alcohol. That will remove the oil. Now you put locktite on the screw, maybe some on the nut. Put it together. Give it however long it needs to dry. Then go fly.
If the screw has to do with the engine, clean it first.
