nostalgia with a new twist
I have been away from the building table for a little over 2 years flying really unsatisfying foams models. Got the urge and a friend gifted me with an old Sig Faser kit. I had built one in early 90 with a reworked Fox 40 coffin case with predictable but not outstanding performance. It had speed but the surfaces were too small to really do a whole lot more than the standard maneuvers.
I've gone to electric in the meantime and this reflects that power choice. An E-flite 25 powers it and it is equipped with Spectrum equipment with the exception of some JR digital servos that I had lying around. The ailerons, rudder and elevator have been enlarged 12% also I put in the cross bracing as I never trust a lonely piece of wood to keep a surface straight.
Weight was actually reduced about 5 oz with some wood replacement and the loss of the maple engine bearers. Covering is Ultrakote fluorescent yellow and carbon fiber black.
I don't expect it to make me a top 3D flyer but I do think that this one will live up to my expectations and besides it is kind of fun to revisit the past every now and then and improve it if possible
