We occasionally use Naptha but as a solvent type adhesive. When using any solvent in a confined space we must wear an O2 sensor that will alarm if the O2 level drops below 18% which is a blackout danger or above 22% which would be a fire hazard. Choosing a solvent for the task usually involves a joint effort between EHS and design engineers. There are times where EHS requirements may lead to a compromise. That being said, using IPA as a cleaning solvent prior to bonding exterior parts onto a SRB that breaks Mach1 in 45 seconds of flight has not been an issue in 100 successful launches. I don't think it would be an issue with our models.

Lets leave it at that, You have shown how important you are. Use the IPA. Being you built such great machines using IPA ,

I still wouldn't use IPA. Where I work, being Boeing, there has been many times that using IPA has been an issue. For a minute or so of rocket powered flight, it may be fine. For hours of jet powered flight several times a day and in many kinds of conditions, like the commercial jets get, I think it's a bit more telling that IPA isn't used. Over the long run, the fact that it's not allowed in any sealing or adhesive processes has to say something. If you want to see the residue left behind from IPA evaporating, just pour some onto a tray or dish that's not white, and wait. When it's evaporated, you will see the white powder residue left behind.

Just illustrating some success using IPA, we can have differing opinions and it's no big deal. No need to be sensitive about it.

IPA, Acetone, Naphtha, Hobby Poxy, Us Composites, etc.... Just like there are many grades of epoxy with many different properties, there are many different grades of solvents all with their own properties. It doesn't matter what is used to clean, or bond, as long as it meets the specs of the process. That is why there are smarter people than me specing these things.

I like this post. The best part of the whole thing is "It doesn't matter what is used to clean, or bond, as long as it meets the specs of the process" because you hit the nail squarely on the head

Not this time, it isn't. I wouldn't use it in epoxy and I definitely wouldn't drink it

Reminds me of what I was told in the men's room today at work by one of the design engineers. " flush twice, it's a long way to Golden Colorado".
