ofna .26 red dot backplate

I would just drill and tap it to the next bigger size. Usually I go to an SAE screw if it was metric to start with and vice versa. Very easy to do and the tools required can be had from a local hardware store.

Yea I was thinking that or welding in the holes and drilling and tapping back to size. I cleaned the holes, used a release agent on the screws after I bought new ones, and jb welded the holes to see if I could remake the threads. It's just to fine of a thread. I noticed the screws backing out and the starter case is starting to seperate. I already lost one starter last time when I realized what was going on. Thanks for the help.

JB Weld is worthless for that and TIG welding cast aluminum is an art form not many easily master. Drill out to a bigger size and re-gap for larger screws. Done deal - and it’s a permanent fix.

I don't think there's enough room to drill it larger. I bought a new part through a lot of searching. It's for a different engine that was a clone of this one. Haven't had time to pull the motor and see if it fits.

If you were able to source a new part, great. You’re lucky! Otherwise, a little bit of ingenuity will get you far when it comes to “saving” old parts that are otherwise junk. I have engines that would be junk if I didnt put piston and liners from other brands into them. I even converted a ringed engine to ABC with parts from a donor engine. When parts are hard to find, you get creative sometimes.

I've got a backplate from a .26maxx I could send to you. I have no use for it since converting over to the sealed backplate with a bump start.
It's not the prettiest, but it was still functioning fine when I took it off. Has a little bit of surface oxidation from leaving it in denatured alcohol and forgetting about it for a while, shouldn't be too big of deal to clean up.
