Question Traxxas Slash 4WD to 2WD

All,

I recently just purchased a Traxxas Slash 4x4 VXL to run at our neighborhood track and a local indoor track. Unfortunately the indoor track will not allow us to run a 4WD due to it tearing up the carpet. Has anyone gone down the road of converting it to run 2WD here and there? I have seen some people removed the center driveshaft and then installed a stub axle in the front so the wheels wouldn't spin the front diff and would allow freespin.

Does this seem like a legitimate way of doing things, or is there a better option?

Thanks!

Selling it is not an option?
Sure, you can rip out the unwanted drive line, but you may not have the best geometry/handling setup that you could have. If competitive racing is going to be done, I'd just buy a 2wd SCT mid motor design platform. If just visiting for a bit of track bashing, I'd say go ahead with the 4wd ---> 2wd conversion, and have fun with it.

Thanks for the response. It would mainly just be for bashing at the local track every few weeks or so. Nothing competitive at this point. Judging by my 2WD rental I had, competitive racing isn't in my near future!!!

In that case, go ahead with taking out the front driveline components.
