I've just about completed the Fifty Caliber, a 58" pattern twin for .25's from MAN plans.

The plans and construction article don't mention suggested control throws, and I'd like some input from anyone who may have flown this aircraft, or a pattern ship of similar size.

I always wanted to build one of those but never got around to it.

Did you build it as a foam wing or built up?

Sorry, no pictures . . . .

Went with the built-up wing as I don't have the equipment to produce foam cores. Quick build, too. I've been at it a week, and should have it ready for glassing by the end of this weekend.
Comparing the wing to that of my Twinstar (using same engines), this is going to be a fast airplane!!

I'll try to borrow a digital camera when it's complete and post some pics. It will be finished in WWII colors, as glassing/painting practice for my P-47.

As far as throws go, here's the ones from my GP Tracer they should be comparably similar.

Elevator: 7/16" up - 7/16" down
Rudder: 2-1/2" right - 2-1/2" left
Ailerons: 1/4" up - 1/4" down

Now those are high rates as well. If it were me I'd increase the ailerons to 3/16" and the elevator to 1/2".

I just found this thread. Did you ever get your Fifty Calbier into the air?

I have a CAD version just about ready to build. I set it up for mechanical retracts and gave it about a 1.25" longer nose (just for the looks really.)

Here isa photo of one I recently acquired. A conversion to electric equiped with two Power 25 1250 kv motors. Flies very well. So far flown with 4000 and 5000 mah 4s, 3 to 3.5 minutes.

Ready again for flight after landing gear support repair on one side, new cowls with 2 inch spinners, and two aileron servos for flaperon.
