I believe you are right, at the end of the day and assuming it is used engine, it's called gambling. Sometimes the buyer wins and sometimes the seller wins.
That is again exactly the point. The sharp buyer comes out ahead. The unsharp buyer blames the system

Just as some folks crash weekly, others go for years wihout crashing.
Fact is many folks succeed handily and regularly.
