Default 1/3 scale GP Pitts problem

I made a mistake and used the supplied c/a hinges on my Pitts.... I have lost two ailerons in flight now but thankfully no damage to the plane. Its a sick feeling that passes over you when you 2 foot off the deck inverted and see an aileron dangling by the clevis. I should have went a head and put the robarts in it. I dont know why I didnt do that to begin with. I had them in my stock....( DAAAHHHH!!! )
Just wanted to say beware of c/a hinges in big birds........

BTW the plane flies GREAT and I love it............

I have been flying my Pitts for nearly 2 years with the supplied hinges. No problems with over a 100 flights.

I've got 50 flights on mine with a G-62 for power with no failures, Did the hinge break or pull out?? If it pulled out did it have any wood stuck to it?? If you used the technique explained in the manual you shouldn't have any problem. Sealing the gap is not needed on this plane if surfaces are installed properly.

You know, you CAN drill these with a 3/32 drill from the bottom and glue in round toothpicks. Then you can leave these dry if you think you may need to remove the surfaces for any reason, or glue them in place. This must be a lost art, judging by the posts....JIM

I've done that with smaller planes but i'd be scared the hinge would rip with the larger planes, but if the ca hinge is properly glued I think there is a slim chance of it failing, @ least I have never had one fail.

I did everything according to the instructions. I have never had a problem with ca hinges before.
I have allready installed the robarts in it now and it has more af a scale appearance now. I didnt
how ever seal the hinge gap. Oh well whats done is done...The plane is still Awesome......
It has a G-62 in it with a 22x8 Zinger at 18 lbs and has unlimited verticle. TME smoke pump is also installed.......Thinking abouth the Christen Eagle now...Hmmmmm
Thanks guys
Shane

2 of the previous posts say that you guys are using the Zenoah G-62 for power. How is this Pitts for balance with the G-62? Did you have to add tail weight?

I am seriously considering the Christen Eagle and I would like to use a G-62 that I have.
