Default Thrust adjustment

Maybe this has been suggested b4, but what the heck...

Adding or taking away washers from the engine mount to adjust thrust angle can/ is a tedious job at best (IMO)... I made my task easier by cutting away part of the washer, making it kinda' "u" shaped. This allows the "shim" to be installed w/out taking the whole bolt loose.

OK??

I'd be worried about the washer vibrating loose and then having a loose engine mount. But then again, I worry too much.

Try Ernst thrust plates. No loosening over time and use. Very cheap too

I usually cut a strip of either brass or aluminum 1/16" or 1/8" thick to the proper length and drill two holes in it for engine mount bolts to go through. I then sandwich it between the firewall and the mount.

That's the one. I get mine from Quantum Hobbies. It comes in two sizes - 40 and 60. The 60 size fits the engine mount for my Saito 100 nicely. Hope that Ernst will come up with plates for larger mounts.

I started another thread similar to the thrust setting topic here. i like the Ernst thrust plates you can buy at Tower, but I wish they came in larger sizes for bigger engines. I think they only go up to the .60 range.

I like the washer idea. But I do have a reservation. It has been my experience that washers tend to sink into plywood firewalls over time and change the thrust adjustment. I use washer to initially trim the plane and then permanently replace the washers with a wedge sanded from aircraft ply.

The Ernst thrust plates work well. Some people use those plastic squeeqes for thrust plates too.
