Default Best Gas boat Radio????

Ok lets just word it like this
which one is the best for all you guys racing?
If you race with it then us guys playing should be fine
I run the JR synthesized radio and I get some shut down from the fail safe depending on the water conditions and range
So for all the guys that are posting about radio's which one will work the best????

I used to use the JR XS3 Synthesized FM radio in my gas boat and I got tired of going into fail safe.

Mind you it does not do that with any of my Nitro's.

So.....I switch to the Futaba 3PM 2.4 FASST system and no more problems, range is well beyond any of the biggest racing course. I have gone over 600' without a glitch.

Dan.

I think you'll find that the racers don't go as far away as the sports boater, race courses aren't all that big really.

I use the dark side with a Spektrum pro module on my Airttronics M11. I DON'T use standard spektrum receivers, I've had them go into failsafe on my FE boats, but not my nitro or gas boats which is opposite to the norm.

I run pro (3001) receivers with a capacitor and have had no issues as yet with that setup.

What works for me may not work for others.

AM [X(][sm=drowning.gif],WOULDNT ADVISE AM in a gas boat ever!!.We spend too much money on these things to risk it.I toyed with the idea ages ago but after reading up on it i decided its just not worth the risk.

Futabab 3PM 2.4 FASST. Nine boats, no issues, even for SAWS races where I go WAY out to get up to speed before entering the traps. Never had an issue.

Aye,Futaba 2.4 3PM FAAST.
No glitches in 3 boats.

RX's are not the cheapest though AND only one problem i see.
When switching from model to model,if the last RX is still switched on,the TX will still control that RX.
I forgot to switch off my first boat and the throttle servo was reversed on the second one, destroying the first boat servo[>:]

Unlike my Spectrum DX7 on my helis which is a genuine model to model TX.

Brodjack - the behavior you noted is not a "problem" per se, it is not different from any other frequency block (72, 75, 36, 40, MHz etc.). The Futaba 2.4 FASST receivers will "listen" to the transmitter they are bound to. I have 11 of them, and if I turn all 11 on they will all respond to my TX. They will ignore all other transmitters, even Futaba, but they will listen to the transmitter they are bound to.

As you found out the hard way it is important to check that you turn off the receiver that is not in use to avoid potential damage caused as in your case, to a reversed servo, etc.

Here's a little known situation. With PCM radios they will reject a signal from another brand of radio, PCM or FM. But it will listen to the same brand and take commands from the closest transmitter. So if 2 guys are at the pond and both have Futaba (or JR) PCM radios on the same channel, both transmitters will control any and all Futaba PCM receivers on the same channel. Each RX will listen to the strongest/closest signal.

yes, thats why i went 2.4 in my boats.
Where we sail theres lots of guys, and gals, who arrive, jump from their cars, throw their boats in without even bothering to ask who's on what frequency.
Mostly AM tx's but the occaisional FM.Basically chaos[X(]
Unlike my flying club where every member has a differant allocated frequency no.

2.4 gives me the security no one will ever be on my RX's.

Silent-AV8R
I’m new to this and I need a radio for my boat.
the futaba 3pm 2.4 fast sounds good but what receiver are you using?
I hear the R603FS is better for heat resistance than the R603FF
Thanks
