Hey guys you helped me pick out a tug kit awhile back, but im running low on funds so I decided to try a scratch build, so I can buy materials at my own pace instead of putting 2-300 intially into a kit.

anyway, where can I find some decent tug hull plans for a plank on frame construction type?

The Springer is the clubs "IROC"/Nascar tug. All the hulls and running hardware are the same, but the superstucture profiles can be anything you want to build. The variety they have created is entertaining. I have seen superstructures built as outhouses, gardens, a house with a yard, log pushers, tractor tugs, Low cab, High cabs, stacked decks and high bridged designs all on this one hull.

Pity the replies went away. Here we go again.

Anyway, I had found four free plans for tugs.

The first is a good plan with details and hull sections. It is also hard double chine which means you can make it cheaply from cardboard or plastic sheet. I've watched the original in Bilbao, Spain and it is one of my favourite subjects for a small/medium tug.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! Im looking for somthing with a hullshape similiar to the smit nederland or smit rodderdam if at all possible.

the taubman plans site is awesome, all kinds of stuff, the only issue is that on some plans it doesnt say if it comes with hull plans and the plans for the ribbing and whatnot

Pat Matthews may have plans for the Field Express, but it would still cost you copying costs, and postage. That typically comes out to around 20 dollars.

You might just e-mail Loyallhannah and inquire what the plans include.
Its difficult to be picky about free plans vs plans for a particular boat.

The plans dont have to be free, Just not exuberately expensive, anything under 40 bucks is cool

Nice link Fleetsailor. It is a little over his Free-$40 budget, but for a ready to go hull, that is a nice find. I know some other people that were intersted in that class of tug, and we couldn't find a whole lot of information on them. Your link(comes with plans), and the Loyalhanna plan set would be more than enough to finish the tug nicely.

Yeah , not a bad idea at all, the 40 bucks was just for plans, I can definately swing more for a built hull and from what ive seen thats a pretty good price

It's great to hear the Taubman Plans site is awesome, but it would be helpful if each plan specified hull and ribbing details, which is crucial information for any marine architect looking for a large ocean-going tug design like the Mister Darby or Happy Hunter.
