Default Tank Hauler For My M5 Stuart

A while back I picked up a "Military Tractor Vehicle" from banggood and it's pretty cool, but the trailer is a bit small. You would have to widen the trailer to carry any kind of modern tank. So I set it aside and then a few weeks ago I picked up the new 1/16 M5 Stuart. Great little tank, too, especially for $126 delivered and RTR. Also from BG. Here's a box opening video of the M5, but that's not really the point of the thread, it's more about the tow rig, which is a perfect fit for the M5, and the two look great together (IMHO).

The "Military Tractor Vehicle' came with the cab from the Ural, so I swapped that for a cab from a JJRC Q60 Here it is after the cab swap, still with stock tires

Here it is with the trailer attached and the M5 on board. If you look close you can see the M5 doesn't have tracks in this photo.

So right now I'm trying to decide on tires & rims. There's stock

The rather expensive tires with metal rims from Imex. These are great rims and the rubber tires are fantastic, if only they had a combat tread on them They also stick out past the tread plates just a bit more than the 3D printed duals.

And the ones I'm leaning towards, the 3D printed tires and dual rims (From ex-pat tanker, thanks again, Martin )

So which of the three options do y'all like the best? And why?

One of the things that concerns me is grip. The 3D tires are printed in TPU on a creality FDM printer, and I love the correct tread pattern, but they are kind of hard so I worry about them gaining traction. I know from the tank hauler I built for Erik that the metal rimmed tires get great traction and easily hauled my JS2, probably my heaviest tank, maybe even a bit more than the Jagdtiger, though that wasn't the case in real life. I guess more testing is in order. Poor me, gotta play with the toys again to see what works best. What a hard knocks life!

I vote for Martin's tires. I have used them for a while now. They have great traction on most natural surfaces, rock, dirt, sand, mud, concrete, asphalt, and snow. They do slip on kitchen floor tiles and smooth finished concrete, but otherwise they work well. They look good with that truck cab too.

I have the combat tires on it right now and as soon as I get a chance I'm going to do some testing outdoors. The real test will come when I use it to haul a bruder trailer with a JS-2 on it. 🙀 😺
