I picked up one of these a few weeks ago, and I have to say, for a $126 delivered I think it's a very, very good deal.

I had also picked up the WPL "military tractor vehicle" with the trailer and the M5 is an absolutely perfect fit on that little trailer. I started a thread about the whole deal so you can see more on that thread. I took the Ural cab off of the tractor vehicle and installed one of the World War 2 type truck cabs from JJRC. Those cabs are somewhat generic, but they look to me like a perfect match for a '37 Chevy truck. All in all, I think it's going to turn out to be a very nice little model.

Tankme you should really think about one of these truck trailer combos. You can get truck and trailer for under $80 with free shipping. Prices really vary so you should shop around, but here's one example. You have to click on the center thumbnail photo to get the price of the truck/trailer, but is $78.92

The cab swap is easy and cheap. I mean, it's almost like they knew the M5 was coming out when they built this and made it a perfect fit.



I guess WPL also calls this the B36-3. Good truck, drives real well and you can raise and lower the ramps from the TX. I still haven't gotten brave enough to try actually driving the M5 up on the trailer, but I'll get there eventually.

Yeah, I've looked at them. I have the WPL E1 and I was disappointed it was under scaled. Problem is their trailer is under scaled also. I think the M5 might be the only tank that could actually drive up there...

I'm planning to use the truck for more than just that little trailer. I still have a couple of the bruder trailers that I need to convert but the truck has a great fifth wheel on it, so it won't need any mods at all. I just couldn't see using the Ural cab with World War 2 tanks, so I changed it over to something more appropriate.

I have the E1 myself and you're right, it does seem under scale. But a lot of vehicles are like that in this hobby. A lot of guys don't realize that the M41 Walker Bulldog is actually closer to 1/14 than it is to 1/16th. Then there's my 1936 Mercedes 540K. The box said 1/5 scale but I did a little research and they only made 3 different wheel base lengths for that car in 1936 but I couldn't get it to match the model in 1/5 or 1/6 scale. I think it's somewhere in between, but it's close enough for me. The 12 inch action figures fit in it very nicely.

Any upgrades available for these?

No upgrades yet, that I know of. I imagine someone will at least do metal tracks, but it's really a great little tank right out of the box. One problem that's surfaced is that during shipping the barrel can get pushed back too far. You have to stick a flinger in through the top hatch and manually push the barrel back to battery position. I had to do that on mine and it took a fair amount of force, but then it worked fine and the barrel recoil is pretty smooth. A lot of guys are removing one track link but I haven't and it seems to run fine for me. I'm hoping you'll get the new radio figured out and do a tutorial on setting it for the best results. I'm sure it has features I won't discover on my own, but I'm hopeless with radios anyway. The manual does mention the words "battle mode" but I haven't figured out if that's applicable to the M5. This is a controller unlike any I've seen so far, but so far I like it. If I can just figger out how to get the most out of it. You should also take a look at it on the "Military Tractor Vehicle" from WPL, which is actually a tractor/trailer tank hauler. I have a couple of videos on that combo if you want to see them. I took the Ural cab off the tractor and used a cab from a JJRC Q-60, which is a much better match for the M5 time-wise. It's going to be a fun project. Here's a video from before I swapped the cab.

Oh nice. Thank you. I was curious is these used the flat rubber track. The designation escapes me but, I made them for a Sherman using the stock connector links and one BS and rubber pads.

I think there were only 2 types of tracks for these and I think one of them was designated T16.

I did a hobby grade conversion for a friend, hidding all the electronics in the upper hull, leaving the lower one empty for the crew and detail, because he wants a recognaiscence vehicle. I had to limit the speed with the radio to a 30% because it was too fast.

We recorded his voice and fitted sone music of his choice


It ended running fine.

As for tracks, they did, in fact use a rubber pad on some of the stuarts

M5s used two types of tracks. There is the metal cleat type called the T36E6 and the T16 rubber block tracks. The T16 is actually a metal block that is over-molded in rubber on the real vehicle.
