Default AeroScout minimal elevator travel in SAFE

I’m using a DX8e tx with an AeroScout. I have the same issue as many others in which the elevator barely moves in SAFE mode. The “I” button is assigned to transfer control to a slave transmitter. Modes are assigned to switch B -- assigned to Aux1. All other channel assignments are set to defaults. I solved this issue once but can’t find my notes and am unable to solve it now. Thanks for everyone’s input.

The AeroScout receiver uses channel 5 for the three SAFE select modes. Channel 5 is usually the "GEAR" switch and channel 6 is usually Aux 1, so you will need to reassign channel 5 on the transmitter to the 3-position switch "B". I fly my Aeroscout with a DX-8 gen 2 transmitter and use the DXs transmitter that came with the RTF Aeroscout for training students as a buddy box. It works great. Also know that the "Beginner" SAFE mode is essentially an auto-pilot in the receiver that is set up to maintain a "best" nominal pitch for the model based on the throttle setting. The amount of elevator travel will depend mostly on how much the actual pitch differs from the programmed pitch for a given throttle setting. It will assume a climb pitch and climb at full power, assume a level cruise pitch at half throttle and assume a glide pitch at idle. The available pitch and bank range is very limited in the "beginner" mode and rudder input is often needed to get the Aeroscout to turn within the boundaries of a smaller flying site. In the beginner mode, one has to continuously hold a control input in order to get a continued response. For example, one has to apply continuous left aileron to get a continuous left turn and it will self level as soon as the left turn input is released... like steering a car. This can be counter productive in training students because they have to unlearn the constant control input scenario. So far, I have only found the beginner safe mode useful for two things: 1. It provides a more stable aerial photography platform, and 2. it is useful for flying lighted airplanes (such as the Eflite Night Radian) at night when visual spatial orientation clues are limited and actual model orientation can be mentally lost... (is it turning right or is it turning left?... the silhouette view can be the same either way).
