Default is there an explanation for this?

i got an email from [email protected] that someone had posted in a thread in the off topic section of the cars, trucks, buggies forum. i clicked the link to check it and the thread has been locked sense 2011.
so out of curiosity i did a search for the user name listed in the email. nothing comes up. it's like the name doesn't exist.
so im confused. is there a problem on the forums end or was this just some kind of cleverly disguised spam email? cause it looked like a 100% legit RCU notification.

Its legit, there was a new post on a thread that I thought had been closed ages ago, I deleted it and closed the thread again.

You had several posts in that thread.

It’s too bad we can’t edit old posts to update photo uploads/links, fix spelling errors, or add info to a specific post. You only get a short time to edit posts after posting them. Reporting posts to get them edited falls on deaf ears as well.

Sorry that's not true at all.

yes, it is quite true actually. Here are some screen shots of a post I made on 9/7/2024. I could edit it the day I posted, but I cannot edit it now. The decision was made to disallow post editing for some ridiculous reason, and since that decision was made, I have reported posts that needed edits with NO RESPONSE. I don’t make a big deal if it is unwarranted. Been here for a long ass time - only in recent times were old post edits revoked. So, if you want to say it’s not true, please show how it isn’t so. Being a moderator gives you options the regular users do not have. Please remember that.
Since photo uploads don’t work either, here are links to said post I reference above.

I went back to April in your history and don't see anywhere you asked for a post to be edited.

I did see one ticket where you said "so this forum is back to not allowing posts to be edited"

But there's nothing in that ticket actually asking for something to be edited so I ignored it.

I sent three tickets to be allowed to edit some of my posts. I don’t want staff to edit my posts, so I did not specify what I wanted edited. No staff member bothered to send me a PM asking for clarification either. I assumed staff didn’t give a rip, so I didn’t bother following up and just left it alone. Seems to be a pretty reasonable idea in this instance.

If this forum won’t allow post editing for whatever reason(s) it has, I’m not going to bother requesting an edit to have a moderator or staff member edit it for me each time. That is a huge waste of everyone’s time, and honestly, pretty dumb.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my posts this time around. I appreciate it.

FWIW - RCGroups tried this no-editing policy too, and it lasted about a week or two as I recall.

You sent a ticket to be allowed to edit a post, that's not within my power, the policy is what it is, I didn't make it and except for a moderator or admin account it can't be over ridden.
