Default 1/6 rso

Hi RCU
Some photos of my 1/6 RSO scratch build project. This has been in works for long time but with help of 3D printing is finally getting realized. This model will be RC with 12V motors powering tracks. All design done in Inventor. The hull is printed in 3 parts in PLA+, then bonded together and reinforced with 4 carbon fiber rods through all 3 pieces. The upper rails are Aluminum. The axles are brass. Wheels and Sprocket are printed in Nylon, the tracks are PLA+ or ABS resin. Load bed will be printed in PLA+ as well. Hope to do driving test soon. Gearbox use 12V motor with 260rpm, with further 3:4 reduction to about 180 rpm at the output shaft. The gearbox are printed but have steel and brass gears, and steel 8mm output shaft. Finished weight w plastic tracks should be about 8-10lbs (3.6-4.5Kg). Might need some additional weight for traction...

Hi Bob,

Are you working off plans or measuring off an existing model? Looks good! Will you use a standard ESC? What about sound?

Hi Nick,
I designed the 1/6 model from 1/35 scale models (Italieri and Dragon) and Nuts-n-bolts book. A friend in Romania has a real sprocket and track for some dimensions.

For ESC I usually use Sabertooth, this one will be 2X25. For sound probably ESS dual sense module. They work fine and easy set up.

Thanks for looking in!
Bob

hi Will and thanks! Your 1/16 models are "Ace" too - I want one of each! But I realized then I'd never finish my 1/6 projects!

Motor test complete - runs like a champ. Very happy. Hopefully video soon.

Merry Christmas RCU. A little more progress to show on the RSO. Cab nearly done except for small details.

Rather pleasing back side..

I like the Star Wars beginning title, nice! I also like driving it slow or scale speed, they look a whole lot better than when zooming around like race cars.

Thanks Nick, this model is geared pretty low so it would not be fast. The real one was pretty slow as well. Thanks for looking, playing with new video editing software. I'm no Steven Spielberg. LOL.
