Default overgearing

instead of speding all the money on a 5.5 brushless i plan to seriousely overgear my rustlers stinger 20T to get it to push 40Mph. i know it may not work, but i dont mind sacraficing the my current motor and ESC because if it doesnt work ill just spring for the 5.5 brushless. i plan to keep the motor cool with a few fans, but what i want to know is: if i overgear my rustler will just the motor overheat or will the ESC overheat too?

Fans arent a excuse for being overgeared. You must be stupid if you think its going to hit 40mph on the stock stinger motor.

I had a high gear on my brushed sprint. )now brush less. I overgeard it ran fast but the motor and ESC would over-heat. I say if you'r willing to risk the heat go for it but you may find your self buy a burshless soon. JMO tho. GL[8D]

yea i used the formula in understanding gear selections thread and came up with this spur gear 81T and pinoin gear 25T on a 20T motor, that should give me close to 40MPh.

25/81 on a stock motor isnt going to do it.
with a weak ***** motor like that, you will run out of radio range before you reach speed.[sm=lol.gif]

You mind as well order the brushless kit now . Fans are not going to help stop the windings on the arm from burning up . You might go fast , but not for long . Just wasting money .

That motor doesn't have enough torque to reach that speed with any gear. Get the bl and then you can hit 40 mph.

I've got the SS+5800 in my stampede with stock radio/receiver. It gets excellent range. No problems at all.
Make sure you don't overgear your brushless, that would be costly. Start out moderately UNDERGEARED and work your way up, watching the temps!

There's only one way to do it, increased voltage while just slightly increasing the load.

I think you should video tape this event and let us all see your motor and esc get fried! I've always wanted to see something burn up that wasn't mine for a change!

Both components will get hotter. When you go from a dirt vehicle/surface to a nice smooth wide open lot you can gear way up with no ill effects except higher speed

My street buggy is geared for around twice it's original speed I think. It has all stock components except gears and battery and tires.

20 / 88 stock
35 / 78 high gear plus higher voltage

Exactly. Film it! I want to see it turn into a fireball as it cruises down the street LOL

It sounds like you're ready to push your Rustler to the limits, but you’re getting a lot of feedback that overgearing your setup might lead to some serious overheating issues, both for your motor and ESC. If you’re determined to go ahead with the overgearing experiment, just be prepared that your motor and ESC might not handle the stress, even with the addition of cooling fans. The general consensus from others is that this could result in both components overheating and potentially burning out.

Given that, it might be a better investment to just go straight for the brushless setup if you're aiming for speed and reliability. And if you do decide to push your current setup to the brink, make sure to film it—people are definitely interested in seeing the results, whether it’s a blazing success or a literal fireball! Good luck with whatever route you choose!
