Alrighty folks getting ready to build the fuselage and I understand just about everything except these F22 wing saddle parts. mine are 5/32 stiff balsa and according to the plans and manual I’ve got the shape them to the wing airfoil. How the heck am I supposed to bend 5/32 sheets to the shape of the airfoil I’m familiar with the hot water trick but bending 5/32 parts that sharp especially the LE area will snap the wood I must be missing something any input greatly appreciated.
I'm building this kit now, and am looking at the same problem. My suspicion is that this is an error in the kit: why would that piece be supplied in three parts if it's supposed to have lengthwise grain? Usually, when a part is made in pieces like this, it's because it needs to have the grain crosswise, and the balsa sheets aren't wide enough to do the part in one piece. I think these bits were drawn like this with the intention of laying them out going across a sheet, and then they were accidentally put in lengthwise when the layout of the parts on the balsa was done.

I don't think the kit is complete, no ribs, no plans/instructions and some sheeting.
Does not mean it's not doable as I have been building for over 50 years and have scratch build many models.
I could use some help in identifying the wood in the kit though.
Right now there are spars and various other sized strip wood that I have no way of knowing whats right.
For instance, the rear and LE stip wood in this kit is 5/16x5/8x30" spruce. is this correct?
Any input would be great.

I ordered the plans and templates.
The more I get into this bird the more enthused I am getting.
I only paid 40 bones for it.
All that's missing is the wing ribs......all else is still there. Even the mylar stickers.

I had forgot Bill made the templates available to the AMA plans service... that was a couple days ago.

I was going to build my Proctor Nieuport 28 next but this Oldie is just begging to be built.
Obviously someone had started to build it and then gave up. The ribs are easy to reproduce and the rest of the model is in the box.
The only thing I could use help with at this point is the wood for the wing spars.
The plans show the proper size, but no mention of what is used.
In this kit is lot of 5/16x5/8"x30" hardwood that has spruce like grain, but it's not actually spruce. Looks more like hemlock. it's also heavier than the spruce I'm used to.
There is not material list to tell me what is used for the spars.
Can anyone that has this kit let me know what was supplied?

For my Pica 1/5 scale I have acquired a new OS 1.60 twin, Cowl and wheel pants from fibre tech, and have all the parts that were missing cut now.
Will laminated the rear spar with 1/16" basswood, and will flute the 5/16x5/16" basswood front spars to lighten them. Balsa would probably do, but a little more strength won't hurt. Being a Free Flight competitor since the 60's has always taught us to strengthen, but not overdo anything.
Going to keep this model as light as possible with the exception of covering. No plastic film. Koverall and dope.
Looks like a fun to fly plane, and thanks to all that have posted pictures and ideas have made this an easy build.

I had a Saito 125 in my Pica 1/5 and it flew beautifully. Not sure where in this thread may have posted it, but here is the video of my maiden.again:
For the equivalent G/P version I too bolted on a Gemini 160 twin. Far too fast even at partial throttle with an 18/8 prop so before next flight intended to try an 18/6.
Due to the carb location and lack of pressure feed on the Gemini, I had to mod the structure to drop the tank as low as possible to reduce flooding and mixture change as fuel was burned off. You may have to do the same as I cannot remember now what the inside of the Pica looked like, but it should be a lot easier during construction than to an ARF.
I decided to pull the Keleo exhaust from my Gemini to fit the cowl and faux radial better. Will likely sell it if interested.

I know what you mean about the tank location in the GP arf's.
I used a 1.60 in a GP Super Stearman. Great airplane, but modding the fuse to lower the tank was a royal PIA.
Once done though it ran and flew flawless.
You're right about the Waco kit version though.
Much easier to get the tank down almost where it should be.

I believe aboot 12 1/2 lbs dry. I had a 16 oz tank and since most was at half throttle would land at my preset 9 minutes with half a tank remaining. Due to this I would recommend dropping to 12 oz in a similar situation, but no idea of your flying style or duration. Mine was specifically to look as if a pilot aboard so no shock waves, unlimited vertical or prop hang. Have other craft for that.
My pilot even had a silk scarf!
ps. Can someone PLEASE tell me why I cannot see the option to upload pics? I have a "Current Attachments" under the text box, but nothing happens when try to add info there.
Also, no PM regarding the Keleo yet.

If you are using Firefox for a browser, that is most likely the culprit of not being able to access the rest of the tool bar including uploading pictures.
After years of being a loyal Firefox user, I have gone back to Chrome
If that is not your case, others have suggested clearing your browser cache to allow it to reload?

It has been a while, with wife and I suffering through Covid for the first time and a few other issues.
Wanted to mention finally had the chance to view a 1/3 Peter Barth kit for sale locally. Unfortunately, from what I was able to find the landing gear and horizontal tail wire that runs along the leading edge and attaches to the upper fuselage bulkhead are MIA. The latter may not be difficult to pattern if the plans are accurate, but no longer have facilities to fab up a gear like that shown, (I would have looked to replace the center spring with a hydraulic shock from an RC truck).
With some help, I went through Proctor, then Vogelsang, and finally to a contact I was given for Peter himself, (that may no longer be active as still no reply). From every indication the war in the Ukraine has affected some parts supply, (as well as the freedom and safety of far too many).
For all intents I would much prefer the 1/4 since much more in line with my storage and transport. Along with that, building would be much more rewarding and allow for some other mods have locked away in my brain, (float attach perhaps?).
ps. I am using Firefox and am comfortable with it. If anyone wants pics can PM me with their contact info. Be aware, the latest Win 10 update wiped most of my media.
