New Yellow F/A-18 Build Project

I'm not sure who made the tanks that are in it, but it's two side by side tanks that are contoured to the fuse sides and bottom but dead flat on top (plus UAT). I measured their capacity at about 100oz each. Most of the flight is at 1/2-2/3 throttle and with my timer set at 6:30, I land with about 1/3 of the vertical level of the tank. Have not measured the fuel remaining from there, but due to the taper of the tank towards the bottom I'd guess it's about 20% fuel remaining maybe? Ideally, if I could shave weight elsewhere first, I'd probably add another 40-60 oz of fuel to be able to get my timer closer to 8 minutes with a reserve.

OK. Thanx. That is useful info for me. Sounds like the same tanks I have which are made by Jet-tech, Gary Mueller. I have 2 JetCat P130RX engines in mine and fuel burn is a big concern. It has only flown once thus far for about 5 minutes but we didn't get to measure the remaining fuel load. Now that the weather down here is more comfortable I plan to fly more sorties.

My Twin came out the same weight. I fly off 625 runway. Don't know how much room you have? With the 130s I think your five minute flight is about right I had two different ones. One had AMT in them early on and I had one with K100s. Built two more with Olympus single and another 200 class
Good luck with yours!!!!

Sounds like you could set your timer to 8 mins already.

That’s great. I need to mine on the scale again, but if my memory is correct I was up around 45 dry. It’s mysterious. The D model conversion with second cockpit and pilot is probably good for a couple pounds, but other than that I assume the weight is in the resin, primer and paint.
Shaun, I’m sure I could bump up the timer now. Baby steps. I did move it to 7 minutes after the last flight if I recall correctly. I tend to always set my timers on the conservative side to allow for a go around or two if needed.

It went another 8 months or so without flying but put 6 or 7 flights on it at Kentucky, mostly in the last day due to some engine issues that Manny and team sorted out on the field. Still have made no efforts at a diet, but I was thinking of bringing the CG back just a bit by replacing the heavy batteries in the nose with lighter weight packs to shave a few ounces while also reducing the nose heavy CG. I currently have it balanced on the front spar with full UAT and empty mains, but with 200 oz of gas forward of that CG point it’s really nose heavy early on, and even with maybe 20-30oz of fuel left at landing you’re still talking about a lb or more of weight forward of the spar. So l’ll try to rebalance it with an estimated landing load and maybe shave a few ounces overall. Won’t even be a dent compared to the 5+ lbs I’d like to take off, of course.

Hello, I have purchased a yellow F-18, I think it is the twin, although it comes with a bench prepared for a single engine and a Y-shaped exhaust pipe (2800mm long)
I have been looking for the assembly manual for this model for some time without any results. Does anyone have this manual or know where to get it?
Thank you very much in advance
