Default Muffler screw size for OS LA65?

Can anyone confirm the thread size for the muffler attachment screws? I'd rather go to the hardware store than pay hobby shop prices for 2 socket head cap screws. I haven't found a screw that fits in my box of screws yet that I can measure. The muffler has the number E-4010 embossed on it,

It's probably a 3 mm x 0.5 thread pitch.

Why not take the thing with you when you visit the store ? A simple test fitting is a better bet than a handful of “probable”.

In the event that 3.0 mm seems a bit sloppy, and 4.0mm a no-go; There is a tweeter option, the 3.5 mm screw has been used often on O.S. Engines.

I did take it with me, but Lowe's didn't have what I needed. Ordered an assortment of metric hardware on Amazon. It's good to have a supply anyway.

Were the Lowe’s all small, too large or too short?
If the 3 felt small and the 4 would not fit, there is a pretty good chance it is a 3.5. Lowe’s does not carry 3.5mm and very few suppliers do. Most metric assortments exclude 3.5mm as well.
In some situations, the hobby shop prices are a pretty good deal.

I've gotten my metric screws from my Ace Hardware Store. They were loose, and sold individually. The best part is you can try M2, M2.5, M3, M3.5's and any size until you find what works.

Not likely to find 3.5mm @ Ace Hardware

Perfect!
(But muffler screws are not listed there)
The 3.0mm are very common and easy to find in most hardware stores.
That said: if the OP had posted actual sizes of the screws he tried and reported failed to fit…,
Would have made helping a lot more accurate.
I suggested trial fitting the actual part was for several reasons. Many of us have often encountered muffler holes that had been re-tapped to a different thread size. Not unusual to find 3mm re-tapped to something like 4-40 UNC.

(Which could explain why the screws he tried didn’t fit !)

This is why accurate feedback from the OP produces better information. There are times when the right part no longer works.

Anyhow good luck! Thank you!
